About the Position

Harris Health is seeking a Registered Nurse III - Charge Nurse to join the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital for full-time night shifts.

The Nurse Clinician III is an experienced clinical specialist who provides safe, high-quality neonatal nursing care while demonstrating strong clinical leadership. In this role, you will independently manage patients with conditions commonly treated in the NICU, apply established clinical standards and algorithms, and recognize when additional resources or support are needed.

As a Charge Nurse, you will help guide clinical operations, support nursing staff, coordinate patient care, and promote a professional practice environment focused on safety, collaboration, and exceptional outcomes for newborns and their families.

Requirements
  • Education
    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Licensure and Certification
    • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Texas
    • Basic Life Support certification from an American Heart Association or Red Cross-approved program
    • Additional certifications required by the unit or service
    • Designated professional nursing certification for the specialty
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 3 years of Registered Nurse experience
  • Clinical Performance
    • Annual performance review, résumé, CV, or professional portfolio must demonstrate leadership within a professional nursing practice environment
  • Clinical Leadership
    • Minimum of 1 year of clinical leadership experience
    • Must meet at least 2 recognized leadership criteria, such as:
      • Charge Nurse
      • Preceptor
      • Mentor
      • Specialty certification
      • Shared Governance Chair
      • Quality Improvement Champion
  • Communication Skills
    • Above-average verbal communication with frequent public contact
    • Strong written communication skills
    • Bilingual skills preferred
