Job Description

A Clinical Nurse II (CN II) is a competent clinician who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner. A CNII Independently prioritizes & delivers dependable and effective patient care in a variety of patient situations using nursing process utilizing appropriate decision-making skills. A CNII exhibits competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment. The Clinical Nurse II begins to develop their mentorship skillsets under the leadership of experienced and expert clinicians on their unit. Drives the mentee-mentor relationship to identify gaps in skills, practice and knowledge to achieve desired goals.

A CNII establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice.
The scope of responsibility, duties and accountability at the facility department and position levels including knowledge and practice of the clinical/technical skills necessary to the position consistent with the Nurse Practice Act. Nursing job duties are to meet the Nurse Practice Act, Title 22, The Joint Commission and the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care and the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, and other regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:
  • This position is 100% procedure focused
  • Responsible for room efficiency
  • Take charge of patient triage
  • Perform patient and room prep
  • Confirm and post procedure calls
  • Overtime as needed to finish end of day backlog
  • Educate patient/family regarding diseases, treatment, side effects and symptom management
  • Connect patients with resources such as home care and physical therapy
  • Maintain communication and coordinate interdisciplinary care amongst all providers to facilitate the best care and support for each individual patient situation
  • Room clinic patients including vital signs, review medication list, allergies. Virtual rooming includes reviewing medications and allergies
  • Assess patients as they come to the exam area and facilitate communication with the MD
  • Ensure outside records for new consultations/patients are obtained prior to the visit, including clinic forms
  • Make post-procedure phone calls to patients
  • Coordinate all pre-operative clearance for patients undergoing a procedure and ensure documents are acquired in a timely manner and reviewed
  • Triage phone calls from patients to assess immediate needs and provide solutions, contact other practitioners to facilitate solutions, and/or provide advice to the patient for appropriate measures
  • Assist physicians with office-based procedures
  • POC testing, central port access, and insertion of peripheral IV's


Qualifications

Education
  • Assoc. Degree/College Diploma - minimum
  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (state accredited program) - preferred

Experience
  • 1 year For external hires, acute care experience in their specialty for new hires. Promotion to Clinical Nurse II is automatic after completion of one (1) year of clinical experience and a satisfactory performance appraisal at a Clinical Nurse I level. - minimum

Licenses and Certifications
  • RN State License - Upon Hire minimum California State RN License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Upon Hire minimum BLS Certification. As required by your specialty unit.
  • Other - See Department Specifics - 1 Year minimum Other Competencies, as required by your specialty unit (ex. ACLS, PALS, fetal heart monitoring)
  • ANCC Specialty Certification - preferred Any ANCC Specialty Certification strongly recommended after 2 years in specialty
