Herndon Solutions Group (HSG) is seeking a mission-driven Registered Nurse (RN) to support Occupational Health Services operations at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC). This unique opportunity combines occupational medicine, emergency response support, workforce wellness, and operational healthcare within one of the most technically advanced aerospace environments in the country.

The Registered Nurse will support personnel engaged in advanced aerospace research, laboratory operations, industrial activities, and mission-critical programs while helping ensure workforce health, safety, and operational readiness in support of NASA's mission.

This position is contingent upon contract award. The anticipated contract start date is October 1, 2026.

General Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) will support the Occupational Health Services operations at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC), one of the nation's premier aerospace research and flight test facilities. This role supports occupational medicine operations, emergency response readiness, workforce wellness, and medical surveillance activities within a highly specialized aerospace and research environment.

The Registered Nurse will work collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, environmental health personnel, and operational leadership to support workforce health, safety, and mission readiness for NASA personnel, contractors, and mission support teams.

This is a unique opportunity to support professionals engaged in advanced aerospace research, laboratory operations, industrial activities, and mission-critical programs in support of NASA's mission.

How You Will Fulfill Your Mission

Occupational Health & Clinical Support
  • Support occupational medicine operations in accordance with NASA procedural requirements, OSHA standards, and occupational health best practices.
  • Assist with occupational medical examinations, medical surveillance evaluations, and preventive health activities.
  • Perform and support:
    • Vital signs collection
    • Audiometry testing
    • Spirometry/Pulmonary Function Testing
    • Vision testing
    • Electrocardiograms (EKGs)
    • Phlebotomy
    • Urine dipstick testing
    • Finger stick glucose testing
  • Assist providers with occupational injury and illness evaluations and treatment activities.
  • Review and document patient information accurately within NASA electronic health record systems.
  • Support medical record management and clinical documentation activities.

Emergency Response & Preparedness
  • Respond to onsite medical emergencies in accordance with NASA emergency response procedures.
  • Support emergency preparedness drills, mock codes, mass casualty exercises, and disaster response activities.
  • Assist with Basic Life Support (BLS) and initial Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) interventions during emergency response activities.
  • Participate in operational readiness and emergency response training activities.

Occupational Health Program Support
  • Support medical surveillance programs including Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, Bloodborne Pathogens, and other occupational health initiatives.
  • Assist with infection control activities and implementation of clinic protocols and standing orders.
  • Support medical quality assurance and peer review activities as assigned.
  • Assist with clinic readiness, equipment checks, and operational support activities.

Health Promotion & Wellness
  • Support employee wellness campaigns, health screenings, vaccination clinics, and educational outreach initiatives.
  • Assist with Fitness Center medical clearance activities and wellness programming support.
  • Participate in health promotion events and occupational health education activities.

Administrative & Operational Support
  • Coordinate appointment scheduling and patient flow activities.
  • Maintain clinic supplies, equipment readiness, and operational organization.
  • Support audit preparation, compliance documentation, and records management activities.
  • Attend required meetings, training sessions, and operational briefings.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams supporting occupational health operations.

Specific Knowledge/Certification Requirements

Certification Requirement Notice:
Candidates who do not currently possess all required certifications at the time of application must be able to successfully obtain and maintain all required certifications no later than October 1, 2026, in accordance with contract requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of nursing experience in occupational health, emergency medicine, urgent care, primary care, aerospace medicine, military medicine, or related clinical environment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.
  • Completion of the NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) Approved Spirometry Training Course required.
  • Current CAOHC (Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation) certification required.
  • Current certification in audiometric testing and pulmonary function testing preferred if not included in CAOHC/NIOSH training.
  • Knowledge of OSHA medical surveillance requirements and occupational health standards.
  • Experience performing clinical testing, respirator fit testing, immunizations, drug and alcohol testing, and occupational health evaluations.
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, computer, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior occupational health or aerospace medicine experience.
  • Prior NASA, DoD, military, aerospace, or federal healthcare support experience.
  • Experience supporting emergency response operations or industrial occupational health programs.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, occupational medicine, and medical surveillance requirements.
