We are seeking an experienced Float Pool Registered Nurse - Endoscopy & Pre-Op (Full Time) The Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Pool, Endoscopy & Pre-Op provides safe, high-quality nursing care to patients across the Endoscopy and Pre-Operative Services departments. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care throughout the procedural continuum.
This position requires an experienced, adaptable nurse who can transition effectively between Endoscopy and Pre-Op based on patient volume, acuity, staffing, and operational needs. The RN collaborates closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, procedural teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure patient safety, procedural readiness, and an exceptional patient experience.
Job Responsibilities/Requirements: - Provides comprehensive nursing care to patients assigned to Endoscopy and Pre-Operative Services.
- Performs pre-procedure assessments, including medical and surgical history review, medication reconciliation, allergies, laboratory results, diagnostic testing, and verification of procedural requirements.
- Identifies potential clinical risks or abnormalities and communicates concerns promptly to the appropriate provider.
- Verifies patient identity, procedure, consent, site, and required documentation in accordance with established patient safety standards.
- Initiates and maintains intravenous access and administers medications and IV therapies as ordered.
- Prepares patients physically and emotionally for procedures and provides education regarding expectations, recovery, and discharge.
- Provides nursing care before, during, and following gastrointestinal and other endoscopic procedures within the RN's demonstrated competencies.
- Assists physicians and procedural teams during endoscopic procedures as appropriate.
- Monitors patients receiving moderate sedation when permitted by hospital policy, demonstrated competency, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Continuously assesses respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and hemodynamic status and responds appropriately to changes in patient condition.
- Recognizes and responds promptly to procedural complications and medical emergencies.
- Ensures appropriate handoff and continuity of care between Pre-Op, Endoscopy, procedural areas, PACU, and other departments.
- Maintains accurate, timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
- Follows infection prevention practices, including applicable standards related to endoscopy equipment handling and procedural environments.
- Maintains competency with equipment commonly utilized in Endoscopy and Pre-Op.
- Floats between assigned procedural areas according to staffing and patient-care needs.
- Participates in departmental competencies, quality improvement activities, continuing education, and regulatory readiness initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of professional nursing practice.

Qualifications Skills:- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- DC RN License required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent acute-care nursing experience in Endoscopy, Pre-Op, Perioperative Services, PACU, or another closely related procedural specialty.
- Previous Endoscopy and/or Pre-Op experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to function independently in a fast-paced procedural environment.
- Moderate sedation experience and demonstrated competency.
- Experience caring for patients undergoing gastrointestinal procedures, including EGD and colonoscopy.
- Experience in a hospital-based procedural or perioperative environment.
- Experience working in a float pool or cross-trained procedural services position.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
