Job Description

01: Develops an action plan and coordinates new employee orientation in conjunction with the Nursing Education department. Develops mechanisms for documentation of initial competencies achieved and sets individualized time frames for accomplishment. Provides orientation goals and strategies to orientee and preceptor. Acts as a resource in providing theory and supervised practice during training and orientation of all new staff. Utilizes adult learning theories to implement action plan strategies. Participates in the assessment of permanent and temporary employees. Develops and facilitates clinical orientation of all new hires with the development of goals and resolution of performance problems with collaboration from service line coordinators when applicable. Mentors and monitors progress of new employees in theory and supervised practice in response to selected development needs.

02: Provides ongoing development/continuing education. Collaborates with manager, ANM, peers, and coordinators to establish initial and ongoing developmental mandatories and competencies. Assists with problem solving and development of action plans to meet developmental objectives. Facilitates attainment of objectives for all new hires and current staff. Develops and implements educational programs to reflect the unique needs of the nursing division and other departments as needed. Initiates evidence-based programs for the development of clinical skills and ensure strategies are in accordance with clinical practice standards. Integral participant along with management and staff in the selection, and/or implementation of new products, policies, procedures and /or issues related to professional associations and regulatory agencies. Responsible for the coordination and implementation of education for the above.

03: Completes 3-month probationary evaluations in an appropriate time frame. Ability to recognize and facilitate the extension of probation if needed. Placement of new employee into appropriate cluster/service line upon completion of orientation by using appropriate AHS electronic tools. Establishes evaluation time frames, implements and adheres to the process. Conducts a minimum of weekly clinical conferences with preceptor and orientees. Counsels orientees/staff as needed. Provides remedial education as needed.

04: Performs within the framework of established hospital and nursing division policies and procedures. Participates in special projects as requested by Managers or Nursing Division. Assists in research, recommendation, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of mandatory policies and requirement of organizations of regulation and accreditation (DOH, TJC). Utilizes NJSNA guidelines for major program development and maintains records accordingly. Participates in committees, subcommittees, task forces. Acts as a resource to hospital committees, giving input regarding identified problems and practice issues, developmental and problem-solving strategies.

05: Recognizes performance strengths and deficiencies. Accepts suggestions for personal or professional development in a positive manner. Maintains individual professional competence. Establishes developmental goals and strategies incorporating feedback from colleagues and managers. Attends educational programs based on individual and departmental priorities and self-development goals. Participates in professional activities and organizations. Participates in patient care activities as needed to maintain competence. Pursues or maintains specialty certification. Submits a list of yearly personal goals and works to accomplish within the year.

06: Develop and implement internship and other special programs. Assists With interviewing and screening of applicants for perioperative roles. Develops yearend report on education programs for surgical services. Develops short-range and long-range educational goals for Intra-operative services departments. Provides regular updates on status of special projects. Evaluates program/presentation effectiveness using relevant methods. Plans program evaluation based on program objectives. Implements evaluative process and analyzes findings. Plans and implements relevant follow-up activities

07: Maintains records according to established policies. Develops/approves program objectives, content and evaluation methods for nursing education programs Verifies completion of self-learning activities Provides data for computerized records

08: Provides consultation and education for medical staff, and other allied professionals. Coordinates clinical assignments and serves as liaison between faculty and manager of clinical site to maintain a mutually satisfactory association with affiliated schools of nursing.

09. Knowledge of clinical EMR and resource for clinical content contained within the EMR and supplement documentation. Understands and properly utilizes AHS education software program. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Power Point, and word. Working knowledge of Excel.

Other tasks which may be required: Assignments that meet the needs of the department.

Qualifications
