Promotes professional development through advocacy for specialty certification and continuing education, while recognizing personal limitations and seeking appropriate resources to broaden knowledge. Demonstrates ability to assess educational and professional development needs using performance improvement data, course evaluations, and needs assessments to establish goals and priorities. Differentiates educational needs from system issues and communicates feedback on staff performance and progress to appropriate leadership. Actively contributes to Unit-Based Shared Governance and interdepartmental committees, serving as a unit liaison when requested and supporting the Magnet journey. Prioritizes creating a positive work environment focused on teamwork and recognition of individual excellence.
Nurse Education Training & Development: Develops and provides educational programs and conferences for team members. Supports socialization, education, and training of novice clinicians by serving as mentor. Identifies strengths and weaknesses in the clinical practice of team members and completes competency assessments, supports annual evaluations. Attends monthly Educator meetings and communicates new information. Acts as a conduit for new policies and procedures.
Orientation and Staff Development Criteria: Facilitate and evaluate unit orientation for new employees with the management team. Maintain hospital and unit-specific annual competencies. Maintain orientation manuals and educational files. Actively participate in unit-specific skills days. Provide counseling and guidance on orientation and educational needs. Act as a liaison for staff regarding educational matters. Identify areas for clinical and professional development. Encourage and facilitate learning experiences for staff. Assist in identifying and counseling staff on job-related issues. Provide recommendations/documentation related to hiring, termination, and promotion.
Ensures compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission, Board of Health, and hospital standards. Fulfills all regulatory, licensure, annual competency, and mandatory training requirements. Promotes high-quality patient care by developing and interpreting the hospital's and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care, enforcing adherence to state nursing regulations and other governing bodies. Actively participates in patient safety initiatives and performance improvement efforts. Develops, implements, and monitors action plans in response to survey findings or unit-specific issues. Maintains and regularly updates unit policies and procedures to reflect current best practices and regulatory expectations.
Response to Emergency Situations Criteria: Recognizes emergency situations promptly. Immediately initiates appropriate emergency procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in using emergency equipment. Ensure emergency equipment is properly checked and maintained. Implements emergency protocols effectively. Works cooperatively with coworkers during emergencies. Appropriately uses the emergency clinical codes.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in nursing required
Education must be obtained from an accredited institution
Master's degree in Nursing or related field preferred
Certification in area of specialty preferred
BLS Certification Required
ACLS Certification Required
Basis Dysrhythmia Required

Experience with Quality initiatives, action plans, and auditing
Time management and multitasking skills to facilitate patient movement
Experience with Joint commission preparation for disease specific certification
