Position Summary

The Regional Waste Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that waste management practices and operations comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. This role involves overseeing waste disposal and recycling programs, managing compliance audits, and implementing waste reduction initiatives. The Regional Waste Compliance Manager will collaborate with local authorities, internal teams, and external stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable waste practices are in place across multiple locations within the region

Essential Functions

Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure all waste management activities comply with environmental laws, regulations, and industry standards (local, state, federal).
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental regulations and implement changes to policies and procedures as needed.

Waste Management Strategy:
  • Develop and implement waste management programs that prioritize sustainability, efficiency, and legal compliance.
  • Oversee waste segregation, disposal, recycling, and reduction initiatives across the region.
  • Audits and Inspections:
  • Conduct regular site audits and inspections to ensure adherence to waste management standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and submit audit reports, identifying risks and areas for improvement.

Training and Education:
  • Provide training to staff and stakeholders on waste management practices, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote awareness of environmental impact and sustainability within the region.

Incident Management:
  • Lead investigations into any incidents of non-compliance or waste-related incidents, ensuring corrective actions are taken.
  • Implement corrective and preventative measures to address non-compliance.
  • Waste Reporting and Documentation:
  • Complete and ensure reporting of waste data, including volumes, types, and disposal methods.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of regulatory reports to appropriate authorities.

Collaboration:
  • Work closely with internal teams such as operations, health & safety, and sustainability to ensure integrated waste management strategies.
  • Liaise with external contractors and suppliers for waste removal and recycling services.

Performance Monitoring:
  • Meet key performance indicators (KPIs) for waste management, including cost control, waste diversion, and compliance metrics.
  • Report on performance and suggest improvements to senior management


Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required to various sites across the country.
  • May involve outdoor work or site visits to assess waste management operations.


Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Science Related Field (Environmental Science/Chemistry/Biology). Or 4+ years relative experience (or combination of education and experience)
  • Must have a basic understanding of chemistry and at least two (2) years' experience in the hazardous waste industry, especially regarding lab packing, waste segregation, preparing waste profiles and manifests.
  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation required
  • 5+ years of experience in waste management or environmental compliance.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal waste management regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental laws and waste management best practices.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams to comply with environmental policies.
  • Effective communication skills for training, reporting, and collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in waste management software and tools.
  • Certifications -Relevant environmental certifications (e.g., ISO 14001, Hazardous Waste Management) preferred.
