Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Planning:

  • Lead all site/civil practices within the designated regional market and/or geography, including land development, site design, grading and drainage, stormwater management, site utilities, and permitting.
  • Provide support to Practice Leaders to ensure project success and client satisfaction across public and private sector site/civil work.
  • Collaborate closely with other regional practices — including survey/geomatics, transportation, environmental, geotechnical, and construction management — to utilize shared expertise and implement best practices on integrated site development projects.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of growth strategies and business plans, including expansion into emerging site/civil markets such as data centers, industrial and logistics, and mixed-use development.
  • Engage in collaborative efforts with other Regional Practice Leaders within the organization to drive collective success.
  • Provide and foster a culture of performance excellence and collaboration.

Business Development and Client Relationship Management:

  • Take ownership of business development efforts, focusing on expanding the regional site/civil practice beyond existing clients.
  • Foster and nurture client relationships across developers, homebuilders, industrial and data center clients, institutional owners, municipalities, counties, and utility authorities; identify opportunities for expansion, and introduce new services or geographic markets within the realm of our technical expertise.
  • Provide project and client leads to other regional practice leaders to grow their regional practices.
  • Represent KCI in technical societies and community organizations such as ASCE, ACEC, ULI, NAIOP, APWA, and local development and homebuilder associations.
  • Stay informed and track market trends — including land development activity, entitlement and permitting climate, and regulatory changes affecting stormwater and site design — for annual business planning and long-term strategic planning purposes.

Recruitment, Retention, and Professional Development:

  • Support recruiting and retention efforts to attract and retain top site/civil talent, from entry-level designers through licensed project managers.
  • Prepare and deliver timely annual employee performance appraisals for assigned staff.
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures.
  • Provide input and recommendations for technical training — including design software, stormwater modeling, and jurisdictional permitting practices — as well as management and leadership development of staff.

Financial Management and Reporting:

  • Work with the Sector President, Region Executive, Service Line Leader and the CFO to develop the annual budget.
  • Meet annual Performance Agreements targets.
  • Deliver projects on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope and quality commitments.

  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters.

Project Management and Execution:

  • Monitor effective use of equipment and personnel across concurrent site/civil projects.
  • Provide technical project and staff oversight, including review of site layout, grading, drainage and stormwater management design, utility design, and permit submittals.
  • Serve as project manager on large or significant site/civil projects.
  • Develop project-specific safety plans. Ensure compliance with all Federal, state, and local safety rules and regulations, including erosion and sediment control requirements.
