Description

Position Overview

Hills Distribution is a multi-state Plumbing & HVAC Supply businesses across the Northeast. We're hiring a hands-on IT Systems Lead to become the go-to IT person the NY/NJ/PA Region.

You'll walk into sites with undocumented networks, unmanaged switches and years of shortcuts left behind by previous IT providers. We're growing by acquisition and investing in IT accordingly, so when you find something that needs fixing there is a real path to fixing it.

You report to the Director of IT and have an existing IT team supporting other businesses to rely on for support & purchasing. This IT team owns shared platforms, M365 Tenants, firewalls, SDWAN.

You need to be someone who works a problem before passing it along. Asking for help on something outside your scope is doing the job correctly. The Director of IT will visit sites with you through your first weeks and will hold a standing weekly check-in after that. You'll be given the standards to work toward rather than tasked to invent them. We're all learners here, the environment hasn't been ours for long.

What you'll do

  • Act as primary IT expertise regionally - desktop, print, accounts, network, phones & day-to-day questions that come with being the person people call.
  • Build IT trust & processes in the region.
  • Document the networks and assets at each site so any team member can support remotely.
  • Find and fix what has been left behind. Undocumented switches in corners, old access points, inconsistent settings, missing standards.
  • Own the support ticket process at your sites. Escalate issues, report to local management on the major issues, follow through on requests.
  • Co-administrate Active Directory & M365 with the larger team, users, licensing, groups, permissions, print servers.
  • Plan & deploy infrastructure improvements across the sites working with the Director of IT.
  • Report risks, vendor problems & recurring issues early, to Director of IT & business leaders.

Requirements

What you need

  • Hands on IT experience in desktop support, networking and infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting multi-site environments.
  • Confidence with what you'll support here: Windows Endpoints, some server support, M365 & Entra ID, switching & wireless basics, everyday security practices, remote support.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to hold a professional relationship with senior leaders.
  • Comfort documenting what you find and what you fixed.
  • A reliable personal vehicle and a valid license.

Nice to have
  • Distribution, logistics, or similar multi-site operational experience.
  • Bachelor's degree, or certifications such as A+, CCNA or Network+, AWS or Azure.

Where you'll work
  • Based in the Newark-Trenton NJ corridor. This is a field role, where on-site presence is the primary expectation, especially early, with work-from-home flexibility increasing as the sites stabilize.
  • Daily regional driving between sites is expected; mileage and tolls reimbursed per company policy. Occasional travel to Brooklyn/Queens, and rarely to Central PA.
