Job Description

Dewberry is currently seeking aPennsylvania Regional Geotechnical Engineering Market Sector Leaderin our Pittsburgh, Mechanicsburg, or Philadelphia Pennsylvania Offices. The ideal candidate will have 15 6 25 years of geotechnical engineering experience on PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), and/or design-build projects. Applicants must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively and cooperatively in groups.

The successful candidate will be part of a team designing geotechnical solutions for a wide variety of transportation projects including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, soil/rock anchors and embankments. The candidate will lead a team of professionals performing geotechnical field reconnaissance, preparing and administering boring contracts, performing geotechnical calculations, and preparing Geotechnical and Foundation Recommendation Reports. The candidate will also be involved in the development of proposals, contract plans, the preparation of engineer's estimates and construction specifications, and performing construction support services.

Experience is required in project management and budgeting, preparing technical and cost proposals, and understanding QA/QC procedures. The ideal applicant will have the experience and/or desire to market geotechnical engineering services.Applicants mustpossess their PE in PA and have experience working on projects across the Commonwealth.

Responsibilities
  • Direct staff in completing geotechnical engineering tasks for transportation projects, including slope stability analyses, Subsurface Exploration Planning Submissions, Foundation Recommendation Reports, Geotechnical Engineering Reports and Alternatives Analyses and other geotechnical related reports
  • Provide a team environment, mentorship, and training for junior level geotechnical staff.
  • Maintain team building and project communication with both internal and external clients
  • Assist in developing statements of interest
  • Determine scope of work and prepare man-hour estimates for geotechnical engineering tasks
  • Provide quality control oversight for all aspects of the geotechnical engineering tasks
  • Coordinate with bridge structural designers.
  • Communicate with clients, establish goals and objectives for project teams, and schedule and coordinate resources to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the performance expectations of the client.
  • Involvement in professional societies is encouraged
Required Skills & Required Experience
  • BS in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering), MS or PhD degree preferable
  • Minimum 15 years of experience with PennDOT and/or PA Turnpike Commission
  • Experience in the use of PennDOT design specifications and AASHTO
  • Professional Engineering License
  • Proficiency using CADD (Microstation preferred)
  • Proficiency in MS Office software
  • Proficient in the use of LPile, GRLweap, DRIVEN, SLIDE and gINT.
  • Experience with structure related foundation design for transportation projects including:
    • Bridges
    • Retaining Walls
    • Culverts
    • Reinforced Soil Slopes
    • Temporary Shoring
    • Sign Structures
    • Contract Plans
    • Engineer’s Estimates
    • Construction Specifications
    • Shop Drawing Review
  • Maintain positive employee relations and proactive project communication
  • Ability to monitor schedules and budgets
  • Strong technical writing skills required for reports
  • Excellent communication andorganizational skills are required
  • Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record will be required.
