Refining Process Engineer

The Opportunity
  • Refining Process Engineer at a growth-oriented downstream energy company
  • Rapidly integrate into the organization through collaboration with operations, maintenance, engineering, and technical functions.
  • Develop into a technical subject matter expert with opportunity to influence the success of the larger refinery team.
  • Reporting to the Process Engineering Supervisor, you will be responsible for providing technical support to ensure safe, reliable, and profitable operation of the assigned units within your Business Team.

Key activities include:
  • Responsible for daily and long term monitoring in your area; Identify operational deviations from short and long range refinery strategy (i.e. catalyst activity degradation, increasing pressure drop, product yield shifts and equipment performance concerns etc.)
  • Support for unit operational performance and run plan target compliance, ensuring deviations are addressed. (i.e. Unit signals/constraints, Key Margin Variables, Key Energy Variables)
  • Responsible for initiating process engineering change management
  • Participate in incident investigations and follow-up, risk screening and assessments, equipment strategy development, HAZOPs, and safety relief review studies.
  • Support implementation and sustainment of unit Operating Limits/Envelopes and targets, ensuring that all deviations are understood and addressed
  • Support for unit planned or unplanned outages, structured troubleshooting efforts and abnormal operations with the review of problem consequence analysis (PCA) and incident response team (IRT) membership
  • Responsible for development of technical work plans and compliance to turnaround process technical functional milestones for planned maintenance events
  • Scoping and development of margin, reliability and safety improvement projects
  • Support for catalyst selection, catalyst change out planning, and vessel verification practices/quality standards
  • Participate in development of tactical plans to translate key focus areas (KFA) and business plan objectives into resource balanced activities for the technical function
