Your Opportunity:

Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) is an Acute Care hospital with over 1,100 beds. It is the Trauma Centre for Southern Alberta, Eastern British Columbia and Western Saskatchewan. FMC has a Neuro Tertiary Unit as well as the majority of In-Patient Neurological services in Calgary. This is a clinical lead position, leading the Recreation therapy team with the potential for clinical coverage on any unit/service as required. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment. The successful incumbent will show proficiencies in the following areas: Interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team. Self-direction and independent decision making, sound clinical judgment and critical thinking skills. Time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic and challenging environment. Description:

As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience within the last year supervising and/or leading Allied Health staff. Experience within the last year providing clinical interventions to patients in a relevant acute care, tertiary or community setting. BLS for Health Care Providers Level C CPR certification issued within the last 12 months prior to commencement of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience successfully leading change management initiatives in a health care setting. Experience in quality improvement initiatives, project management with a background in participating on corridor and province-wide committees. Experience supporting employee performance development. Skilled in leading and organizing meetings.
