Your Opportunity:

The Nurse Practitioner - UAH In-Patient Trauma Services is a self-directed Advanced Practice Nurse who is educated at the graduate level and functions in a collaborative practice model. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager - Surgery, the NP will provide general medical care to adult trauma in-patients and participate in the trauma out-patient clinic. The position requires the NP to perform advanced, focused and/or comprehensive health assessments and interventions, as well as order interpret and perform diagnostic tests to formulate differential diagnoses and management plans through the integration of patient information and evidence-based practice. The NP will both communicate assessment finding and/or diagnoses including outcomes and prognoses to patients/families and utilize complex reasoning reflective of expertise and education to safely coordinate and manage care for patients while promoting continuity across the continuum of care. An expectation of the position is to participate in profession-specific and inter-professional practice committees as required as well as collaborating with members of the healthcare team to provide and promote patient/family centered care. The NP will act independently and autonomously within their scope of practice. The NP will identify through reliable data sources both research and quality improvement needs, develop research activities and lead and/or participate in research and quality improvement projects and promote application of research and evidence in clinical practice.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Required Qualifications:
Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years acute care clinical experience with 1-2 year as an NP. Prioritizing management of health conditions; provide follow-up treatment; communicate with clients/ families about health findings, diagnoses, and prognoses; support/counsel clients in their personal responses to diseases, disorders, conditions. Monitor clinical outcomes for efficacy and quality improvement. Provide transition support into the community as needed. Collaborate and/or consult with trauma surgeons, anesthesia, acute care addiction and recovery and other specialists, communicating care plans with the health care team. Accept/make referrals to, post-acute rehabilitation facilities and home hospitals. Diagnose/treat diseases, illnesses, and conditions within the Nurse Practitioners scope of practice. Diagnose and order appropriate screening diagnostic investigations; interpret reports of investigations and analyze information to monitor progress and plan treatment. Prescribe drugs within the statutory and regulatory standards, limits and conditions for Nurse Practitioners, within applicable employer policies and procedures. The NP will prescribe, manage, and titrate medications inclusive of opioids as required as part of trauma care.
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of Connect Care and Alberta NetCare. Trauma, critical care or surgery clinical practice within the last 5 years. Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing professional and practice competencies through professional development.
