Pay Range: $145,613.52 to $225,701.06

Actual pay will be based on various factors, such as a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, proficiency for the role, and internal equity. In addition to base pay, Kwik Trip gives 40% of pre-tax profits back to our coworkers with bonuses ranging from 8-12% of each coworker's gross annual wage depending on company profitability and offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, 401k, paid time off, and more.

Are you a talented real estate attorney who enjoys turning complex transactions into successful business outcomes? We're looking for an experienced Real Estate Attorney to join our in-house Legal Department and play a key role in supporting Kwik Trip's continued growth across multiple states.

In this position, you'll work directly with business leaders, real estate professionals, and cross-functional teams to guide high-impact real estate and business acquisitions. You'll have the opportunity to influence strategic decisions, solve complex challenges, and help bring new projects to life while balancing legal risk with practical business objectives.

What You'll Do

As a trusted legal advisor, you will:

  • Lead and support complex commercial real estate acquisitions from initial negotiations through closing.


  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of transaction documents, including:


  • Purchase and sale agreements


  • Development agreements


  • TIF agreements


  • Easements and amendments


  • Related acquisition and development documents


  • Provide legal support for commercial business acquisitions, including asset purchase agreements.


  • Guide due diligence efforts, review transaction materials, and assist throughout the closing process.


  • Evaluate and advise on legal risks related to:


  • Title and survey matters


  • Encroachments and liens


  • Zoning and land use issues


  • Environmental concerns


  • Escrow matters


  • Advise internal stakeholders on ongoing property ownership, landlord/tenant, and operational issues.


  • Draft and negotiate commercial leases, including office, retail, and ground leases.


  • Partner closely with the Real Estate and Store Engineering teams to support new development and expansion projects.


What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.


  • Active license to practice law in at least one state where Kwik Trip operates:


  • Wisconsin


  • Minnesota


  • Iowa


  • Illinois


  • Michigan


  • North Dakota


  • South Dakota


  • 5-10 years of experience handling commercial real estate transactions at a law firm or in-house legal department.


Preferred

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois.


  • Experience supporting both commercial real estate and business acquisitions.


  • Experience working directly with business leaders in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
