Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for MRI examinations
  • Explains MRI procedures in simple terms to alleviate patient anxiety
  • Sets up MRI equipment for timely procedures
  • Screens patients according to protocols and obtains necessary consents
  • Performs various MRI procedures including abdominal and neurological exams
  • Positions patients correctly within MRI scanner
  • Inputs patient history and relevant details into the system
  • Calculates necessary scans based on patient size; operates equipment to obtain required images
  • Coordinates with Radiologist to determine if additional imaging is necessary
  • Implements procedures for transferring and archiving images via PACS system
  • Administers I.V. contrast under Radiologist's guidance
  • Monitors and observes patients during MRI exams
  • Reports any changes in patient condition to the Radiologist
  • Conducts minor repairs and performs equipment calibration checks
  • Troubleshoots mechanical issues with MRI equipment
  • Assists in managing patient flow and scheduling for exams

Full Job Description
Operates Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment. Prepares patient for exam, ensures enough information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis, assists in the management of patient flow and presents images mounted for physician diagnosis.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepares patient for examination
  • Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve patient of anxiety
  • Sets-up equipment to administer the proper procedure in a timely fashion
  • Ensures patient is screened according to protocol, and assures consent for the procedure has been obtained, when necessary
  • Performs MRI procedures to include: abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, and extremities
  • Places patient on the exam table and positions within the gantry
  • Keys in patient history data and other pertinent information obtained from a requisition completed by the referring physician who includes anatomical area of interest, slice thickness and pulse sequences
  • Calculates the number of scans to be obtained based on patient size, and operates the equipment ensuring the required images were obtained as ordered by the Radiologist
  • Contacts Radiologist to review and ascertain whether additional scanning is required
  • Operates equipment for the transfer of computed images to film, the archival of disc memory to tape, and proper use of PACS System
  • Assists the Radiologist with administration of I.V contrast
  • Monitors patient condition and directly observes patient during the examination
  • Recognizes and promptly reports to the radiologist, changes in the patient's condition and/or motor abnormality complaints by the patient including: fainting, discoloration, etc
  • Performs minor repairs and frequent calibration checks and adjusts equipment, when necessary
  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems of the equipment by performing minor repairs, as necessary
  • Recognizes and reports major problems to management to ensure prompt resolution
  • Assists in patient flow including scheduling exams; assuring patients are sent for in advance of scheduled exam; assuring premedication has been administered on the unit; and completing exams

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
  • New York State and/or Connecticut Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist (R.T.) required for positions filled after September 5, 2010. ARRT registration in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) required within eighteen (18) months of entry date into positions filled after September 5, 2010.
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience as a Radiology Technologist, required. Previous MRI experience, preferred.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association required.
