JOB TITLE: Radiation Therapy Tech

SCHEDULE: Flexible hours - 8-hour shifts (7-330, 730-4, or 8-430), No weekend rotation, On-call SUMMARYUnder the direction of physicians and physicists, assists in the planning, set-up and delivery of a therapeutic dose of radiation to minimal but adequate volume of tissue while preserving normal tissue as much as possible.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Performs simulations for treatment under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist.
- Correctly fabricates immobilization devices and custom shielding as necessary.
- Delivers the therapeutic doses of Radiation according to the prescription written by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Takes port films, labels and has them checked appropriately.
- Under the direction of the medical physicist, ensures Quality Control Procedures on equipment.
- Records in treatment records, including dose addition, documentation of port films, adjustments in prescriptions, diagrams, blocking and landmarks.
- Schedules patient appointments.
- Keeps daily Log Sheets, including documentation of inpatients, finishes, new courses, new patients, electron patients and non-malignant cases.
- Keeps records necessary for department statistics.
- Participates in the clinical instruction of Radiation Therapy students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Graduate of 2 year Radiation Therapist Program
New Graduates:
- Official transcript from accredited school or letter emailed directly from the school's registrar's office confirming program completion will be accepted upon graduation.
- Primary source education verification required within 90 days of graduation.
Licensure/Certification:
- NYS Licensure as Radiation Therapist required OR must hold NYS permit and obtain licensure within six months of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION:LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
