Description

SAIC is seeking a Radiation Safety Program Analyst to support the Defense Nuclear Weapons School (DNWS) at Kirtland AFB, NM. This full-time, on-site role is vital to advancing DNWS's training and education mission by ensuring the effective implementation of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency's (DTRA) Radiation Safety Program within DNWS operations. The candidate will support the proper use, management, and governance of the department's portfolio of licensed byproduct and special nuclear material, ensuring full regulatory compliance while enabling safe and mission-effective use of radioactive materials across DNWS programs.
Key Responsibilities Include:
• Support the DNWS Radiation Safety Officer in the management of DTRA's radioactive material license obligations, ensuring ongoing compliance with applicable federal regulations, DoD directives, and NRC requirements.
• Conduct routine and special radiological inspections, surveys, and audits to verify safe handling, storage, and use of licensed byproduct and special nuclear material within DNWS facilities.
• Develop, deliver, and maintain radiation safety training programs for DNWS personnel, ensuring staff are qualified and current in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for regulatory interface with the NRC, DTRA, and other oversight bodies, preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and supporting inspection activities.
• Advise DNWS leadership on radiation safety policy, regulatory developments, and program improvement opportunities.
• Maintain accurate records of radioactive material inventories, personnel dosimetry, training completion, and inspection findings in support of audit readiness and license renewals.
• Identify and mitigate radiological safety risks, developing corrective action plans and tracking resolution of findings to closure.
• Support the development and revision of standard operating procedures, safety plans, and program documentation related to radiation safety and radioactive material management.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Radiological Science, Nuclear Engineering, or a related physical or natural science field, with 10 years of directly related experience in radiation safety program management.
• Demonstrated experience managing radioactive material licenses and ensuring compliance with NRC, DoD, or equivalent regulatory frameworks.
• Experience conducting radiological inspections, surveys, and audits in an operational or institutional setting.
• Experience developing and delivering radiation safety training to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Active Secret Security Clearance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear regulatory correspondence, program documentation, and briefings for diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple compliance requirements in a dynamic environment.
Desired Qualifications:
• Completion of NRC-recognized radiation safety training or equivalent formal coursework.
• Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification or demonstrated experience performing RSO functions in a licensed facility.
• Prior experience supporting radiation safety programs within a DoD, DOE/NNSA, or other federal government environment.
• Familiarity with DTRA's radiation safety program structure and associated regulatory requirements.
