Full Job Description
Position Overview:
Provides glassblowing services required for continued operation in the Development and Production Departments; assists in providing maintenance and emergency repairs on production equipment.
On-site in Kanata, ON
Your Day to Day as a Junior Glassblower:
• Fabricates glass equipment for use in Development, Quality Control, Isotope Production and other users and customers.
• Operates and use torches, glassblowing lathes, annealing ovens and cut-off machines.
• Use various gauges and instruments for dimensional checks.
• Finalizes and prepare the glassware for transfer to other departments.
• Ensure glass equipment is maintained in an operable state.
• Installs, tests and commissions of new and replacement equipment in production facilities.
• Assists emergency repair service for production equipment as required.
• Must be able to work successfully in a collaborative work environment through demonstration of interpersonal skills, teamwork, conflict resolution and effective communication.
• Performs other related duties.
Required Qualifications:
Normally secondary school graduation together with an appropriate training or apprenticeship in glassblowing plus minimum of three years glassblowing experience.
• Must be able to fabricate complex apparatus from quartz or Pyrex glass for development, analytical or production purposes.
• Must be able to assist designing prototype equipment.
• Must have knowledge of the effect of high temperature, thermal shock tolerances on glass assemblies.
• Must have knowledge and skill in the fabrication of glass to metal joins, glass to glass joins, and also skill in the fabrication of glass equipment.
• Must have a knowledge of the characteristics, applications and limitations of a wide variety of glass as utilized in the various chemical processes.
• Must demonstrate problem solving skills and abilities.
Must demonstrate attention to details.

The pay range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) is expected to be between $82,341.00 and $103,169.00 per year. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment and are subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
