Join Honeywell as an R&D Supervisor who will lead lab management efforts including aspects of safety, lab inventory, and research technician supervision. You will be part of the Discovery & Innovation team that identifies and develops new and unique chemistry solutions to the current and emerging materials needs in the areas of data storage and communication, advanced energy storage, automotive and stationary refrigeration, personal care, building and construction. The position will be based in Buffalo NY, USA (Buffalo Research Laboratories) and the successful candidate will report to the Sr. Director of Discovery.

LOCATION: Buffalo, BY

The annual base salary range for this position is $108,000 - $135,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations

In October 2024, Honeywell announced the spin-off of our Advanced Materials business to become a stand-alone publicly traded company, independent of Honeywell. Our intention is that this role, dedicated to the Advanced Materials business, will be a part of this future transaction when the separation occurs.

The application period for the job is estimated to be 40 days from the job posting date; however, this may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• People Management responsibilities include: i) research technician supervision, hiring, payroll and overtime handling, ii) coordination with lab scientists, engineers and Discovery management team, and iii) union/management relations.
• Lab Management responsibilities include: i) inventory management (chemicals and other lab consumables), ii) lab equipment/instrumentation stock maintenance and procurement, iii) purchasing coordination and purchase order follow-up, and iv) identify and implement processes to improve lab efficiency, productivity and laboratory space usage as well as lead and coordinate laboratory renovations as needed.
• Laboratory Safety activities include: i) manage/audit status of SOPs, JSAs, project permits and lab inspections, ii) maintain HSE communication pipeline and represent Discovery in related meetings, iii) facilitate safety meeting statistics and reporting for the Discovery department, and iv) establish processes and coordinate with research technicians, scientists and engineers to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements as directed by HSE management and site leadership.

Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
• 5+ years of experience in R&D Environment within university or industry.

WE VALUE:
• Bachelor's degree in science or engineering (Chem. Eng, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Mech. Eng.)
• Prior experience as a full-time lab manager (at University and/or industry) is preferred (2+ years).
• Familiarity with research level laboratory equipment, chemicals, and consumables (e.g. Swagelok, laboratory glassware, autoclaves, sensors, cylinders etc.).
• Some experience of leading technical teams.
• Ability to lead, motivate, develop and mentor others.
• Conflict resolution skills.
• Exposure to Lean Manufacturing tools/concepts (e.g. Kanban, Visual Management, 5S); willingness to identify and implement systems to improve inventory and safety management systems.
• Familiarity with SAP and Kronos software systems.
• Experience in a fast-paced environment and commitment to project goals and timelines.
• Result oriented and collaborative working mindset.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Reliable and trustworthy with the highest ethical standards and integrity.
