Overview:
The Mechanical Products R&D Engineer is responsible for the engineering design and improvement of RectorSeal's current and new mechanical products. RectorSeal, based in Houston, TX, manufactures and/or distributes a variety of chemical and mechanical products for the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing industries. For over 80 years, RectorSeal's customers have appreciated our innovative product features, and depend on us for excellent value, quality, and timely delivery. We are seeking a design engineer to join our team to continue delivering high levels customer satisfaction by improving the cost, quality, and functionality of our current products, and innovating new products to delight our current customers and attract new ones. This position will be on-site stationed in Houston, TX and report to engineering manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• R&D design engineering of new mechanical products for HVAC market
• Design engineering improvements or cost reductions of existing products
• Develop and maintain design documentation for mechanical products and components (3D models, 2D blueprint specifications, BOMs, FMEA, etc.)
• Validation of product designs through engineering analysis and experimentation
• Creation of product/component conformance specifications, and coordination with quality, purchasing, and manufacturing to approve new components, substitute components, or alternate suppliers
• Product performance vs. Cost tradeoff analysis and competitive benchmarking
• Supplemental engineering support, if needed
• Other duties as directed to deliver annual department objectives
Minimum Requirements:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (Master's is preferred).
• Professional Skills: 3D modeling and drafting using Solidworks; Engineering calculations and analysis skills; Basic computing using MS Office products; Project management and effective time management and prioritization; Effective at working in teams towards a time-bound set of goals and deliverables
• Experience: 3+ years of engineering R&D experience (HVAC industry preferred). Work experience in consumer products design, plastics injection molding/extrusion. Familiarity with industrial standards (ASHRAE, IMC, IBC, UPC, etc.) and compliance is preferred
Competencies/Skills:
• Communication: Strong verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information and instructions
• Management Skills: Highly detail-oriented and well-organized; Self-motivated with strong accountability and execution focus; Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
