Job Summary

The Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, IN has an opening for a Quality Supervisor. Caterpillar's Quality Managers lead teams and supervise people in manufacturing sections to ensure the safe maximization of efficiency in quality, velocity, and cost. This position is a 2nd Shift position covering the Lafayette Assembly Operations team.

What you will do
  • This is a Quality Manager position responsible for supervising up to 10-15 Quality gate auditors on 2nd shift. This leader will also be responsible for providing clarity and direction to support teams to ensure the team's safety and meet overall production goals.
  • Monitor and improve safety on the shop floor; eliminate any unsafe operations and ensure a safe and clean product environment
  • Determine processing needs to assure fixtures, tooling and methods are provided to meet schedules and production requirements.
  • Daily tie-in with production management to designate workload, priorities and sequence for work assigned.
  • Ensures training and effective utilization of workforce
  • Determines overtime need & determines priorities when resources are insufficient
  • Evaluate performance of team members, provide coaching for performance development improvement, and conduct progressive disciplinary procedures as required.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency. Works to improve processes, timeliness and reduce costs by eliminating non-value-added activities.
  • Ensures the quality of product produced and conformity to the standards of the Caterpillar Quality Management System & Built in Quality program while also ensuring that the requirements documented within manufacturing control plans, JIS & standard work are understood and adhered to.
  • Implement various corporate initiatives such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, CQMS/ISO certification, etc.
  • Responsible for training and development of staff, attendance tracking, Workday timekeeping, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, and ensuring consistent application of organizational needs.
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills, be able to communicate with others, work as a part of a team and can work with a diverse group of employees and customers'
  • Desire a strong mechanical aptitude
  • Must be a self-starter and work with limited direction
  • Should possess effective motivational skills, a high degree of initiative and a strong customer focus
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office products
  • Be willing to work outside of normal work hours including overtime and alternative shifts
  • Support the latter end of 2nd shift, and report to 1st shift Quality Manager
  • Support other areas in Quality, Supplier Quality, Certification Coordinators, etc.


Degree Requirement

This position is an early talent position. Candidates must have graduated from an accredited university within the last TWO years or a future graduation by Dec. 2026

Manufacturing Operations: Knowledge of manufacturing operations; ability to perform day-to-day operations of a manufacturing plant or facility for products.

Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.

  • Achieved a professional certification (ASQ, SME, etc.)
  • Experience working within an extended value stream methodology with cross departmental collaboration amongst operations, quality, manufacturing engineering, design engineering, supply chain & maintenance
  • Experience with 3500, 3600, and/or C175 Engines and component manufacturing, dyno test, or other assembly areas.
  • Experience in a team Lead, certification coordinator, quality audit gates, or supervisory role in assembly operations, or operations quality.
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills, be able to communicate with others, work as a part of a team and can work with a diverse group of employees and customers'
  • Have a mechanical aptitude
  • Should possess effective motivational skills, a high degree of initiative and a strong customer focus

  • This position may require less than 10% travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$81,370.00 - $122,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
