Position Summary:The Quality and Metrology Engineer is responsible for leading advanced dimensional inspection and metrology activities within the organization. This role provides technical leadership in CMM programming, inspection strategy development, process improvement, and problem resolution to ensure products meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards. The Quality and Metrology Engineer also mentors junior personnel and supports cross-functional engineering initiatives
Key Responsibilities: Technical Leadership- Lead development and optimization of complex CMM programs
- Establish best practices for dimensional inspection and metrology processes.
- Support World Class Machining initiative.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring on CMM operation to inspectors and quality technicians.
- Review and approve inspection methodologies, reports, and validation studies.
- Review drawings and develop inspection strategies to support NPI process and Contract Review.
- Support the development of control plans and inspection methods to ensure process and product quality.
- Define required tooling and fixturing for inspection methods.
- Apply GD&T principles to inspection methodology, designs and component drawings.
CMM Programming & Inspection- Program and operate CMM equipment using offline and online programming techniques.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements.
- Perform first article inspections (FAI), PPAP submissions, capability studies, and layout inspections.
- Develop automated inspection routines to improve efficiency and repeatability.
- Conduct advanced dimensional analysis and support tolerance stack-up investigations.
Quality & Continuous Improvement - Lead root cause investigations related to dimensional non-conformance and customer complaints.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Production teams to optimize machining and inspection processes.
- Analyze SPC data and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
- Support internal, customer, and third-party quality audits.
- Participate in PFMEAs, control plan development, cost reduction initiatives, ECNs, RMAs, DCRs and part obsolescence evaluations.
Equipment & System Management- Oversee calibration, maintenance, and performance verification of metrology equipment.
- Evaluate and implement new metrology technologies and inspection systems.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, or customer-specific standards.
- Develop and maintain inspection documentation, procedures, and work instructions.
Perform additional duties as required to support operational and strategic objectives.
Qualifications:Education and Experience:Education:- Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree
Experience:- Minimum 3 years of programming, operating and maintaining CMM equipment
- Minimum 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment
- GD&T Professional Certification and/or CMM certifications, preferred
