Job Title: Quality Manager

Reports to: Senior Manager, Quality & Continuous Improvement

Location: Elgin, IL

Summary of Job

Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Quality & Continuous Improvement, this position is responsible for supervising QC Technicians and maintaining quality KPIs for our Elgin location within the Mailing Solutions business unit. Elgin is the flagship site for Mailing Solutions and is the hub for product & quality development. This position will indirectly report to the site Plant Manager and support their vision for the Quality Plant Control System. This role ensures alignment with customer specifications, drives audit readiness, and upholds robust quality systems to support consistent product compliance and continuous improvement. This is a high-visibility role that will also be involved in supporting new product development projects that directly impact the future of the business.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage Quality Control Technicians reporting to all shifts: recruit, onboard, train, evaluate, mentor, coach/counsel and develop QC Technicians as required by local plant. Train Packer Leads on quality standards and initiatives.
  • Ensures alignment with customer specifications, drives audit readiness, and upholds robust quality systems to support consistent product compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Leads end-to-end quality incident investigations, ensuring timely containment and risk mitigation.
  • Conduct structured root cause analysis (RCA) using standard problem-solving methodologies.
  • Develop, implement, and verify effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Ensure all investigations and documentation comply with internal quality system requirements.
  • Collect, analyze, and trend quality data to identify issues, support investigations, and drive informed decision-making.
  • Support Project Management, Change Management, Standard Operating Procedure documentation & implementation, regulatory compliance, and leadership needs with plant operations and new product development.
  • Deliver training material internally and externally for applications, processes, quality process changes, and new equipment operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement and measurable business value through the application of Lean/DMAIC methodologies, reducing cost of poor quality (COPQ) and improving process performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Proactively identify, prioritize, & execute improvement initiatives, maintaining a pipeline of projects that optimize equipment, processes, & overall operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with NPD and Engineering teams on cross-BU initiatives, developing quality and equipment standards and supporting new product trials.
  • Engage with production to develop new products and supporting of process development through PFMEA - (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis).
  • Assist in training temporary and new employees, including periodic checks of QA protocols and retraining as needed.
  • Assist in creating quality assurance plans for new products to guarantee quality from stage one.
  • Support site safety performance by complying with Pregis' safety requirements & reinforcing safe, standardized processes through quality systems and continuous improvement.
  • This role ensures alignment with customer specifications, drives audit readiness, and upholds robust quality systems to support consistent product compliance and continuous improvement.


Competency (Knowledge, skills, and abilities)
  • Ability to travel (up to 10-20%) to support multi-site initiatives, training, audits, and new product development activities.
  • Ability to think analytically and critically.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data accurately to show trends or tell "the story".
  • MiniTab or data analysis experience is a plus.
  • PFMEA experience.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects in cross-functional teams.
  • Hands-on approach working with diverse production teams.
  • Understand and develop people. We heavily focus on employee participation.
  • Ability to multi-task with strong analytical, troubleshooting, and mechanical skills.
  • Skilled in presentations and effective in facilitating meetings.
  • Ability to support 24x7 manufacturing facility as needed.

  • Office desk position with time on shop floor.
  • Exposure to moving equipment.
  • Indoor work, with frequent exposure to uncontrolled climate on the shop floor.
  • Heat may exceed 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Humidity may exceed 50%.
  • Noise may exceed 85dB+.

  • Frequent sitting, standing, stooping, squatting, up to 40%.
  • Frequent use of keyboard/computer/email.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 25 lbs).

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or similar relevant degree preferred, or industry equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 to 5 years' manufacturing Quality Leadership experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience with data and statistics preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt a plus.
