Full Job Description
Role Summary
The Quality Engineer is the technical architect of the site's Quality Management System (QMS). You will ensure product integrity through rigorous process control, documentation authorship, and audit leadership. Acting as the "Quality Gatekeeper," you bridge the gap between engineering design, shop-floor execution, and the final customer to ensure all requirements are met.
Core Responsibilities
1. QMS, Documentation & Auditing
Manuals & Procedures: Lead the development and implementation of the Quality Manual, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Work Instructions.
Audit Leadership: Manage the internal audit schedule and serve as the primary point of contact for external registrar audits (e.g., ISO 9001) and customer technical assessments.
Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs): Author and maintain ITPs for critical manufacturing stages, establishing rigorous stage-gate checkpoints from initial sub-assembly through final system integration.
Calibration & Traceability: Manage the site-wide calibration program for all Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE). Ensure full material traceability from raw components to the finished product.
2. Technical Quality & Process Control
Testing Validation: Oversee product validation and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure compliance with performance specifications.
Special Process & Environment Control: Provide quality oversight for "special processes" (e.g., welding, coating, or specialized sealing). Maintain strict cleanliness and environmental standards (e.g., 5S) to prevent contamination during sensitive assembly phases.
Continuous Improvement: Lead 8D or 5-Why investigations for internal rework and field failures. Drive permanent corrective actions to improve First Pass Yield (FPY) and reduce scrap rates.
Risk Management: Utilize tools like PFMEA to identify potential failure modes in the manufacturing process and implement preventative controls.
3. Supplier & Customer Interface
Supplier Quality Assurance: Audit and qualify vendors for critical components; monitor supplier performance and manage incoming material inspections.
Customer Advocacy: Serve as the lead technical contact during customer witness testing; manage all quality-related documentation, deviations, and final sign-offs.
Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial).
Experience: 3-5 years of quality engineering experience within a complex, heavy-industrial manufacturing environment.
Standards: Familiarity with international quality and safety standards (e.g., ISO, IEEE, or IEC) relevant to high-performance infrastructure.
Certifications: ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is highly preferred. Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is a plus.
Tools: Proficiency in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Control Plans, and Root Cause Analysis methodologies.
Software: Experience with ERP systems (SAP/Oracle), statistical analysis software (Minitab), and document control platforms.
