Job Description

As a Quality Engineer IV, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our company's reputation for excellence. Your expertise in Navy Quality Assurance programs, including Level 1, SUBSAFE, and DSS-SOC, will be instrumental in overseeing the quality of our deep submergence systems. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge technology and ensure the reliability and safety of our products.

You will assist with defining the Quality System requirements within the core processes of Oceaneering's quality culture. Responsibilities include identifying, following, and helping to speedily resolve quality issues to ensure zero impact to the customer. You support supplier selection and development activities. You will work in a team environment to develop and implemented best practices hat emphasize defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste, and provide for continuous improvements in meeting all customer and company requirements. You will manage the customer specific requirements and ensure that they are fully considered when writing Quality Plans. You are responsible for multiple highly complex major projects requiring innovative solutions where results are key to successful completion of major projects. The position works independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL
  • Support the strategic plan of the business
  • Apply significant technical expertise to guide highly ambiguous projects
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and independently
  • Demonstrate expertise in action and mentor junior members in quality principles and best practices
  • Raise the awareness of the organization in quality principles in all interactions and through formal and informal modes
  • Drive quality initiatives such as process and product characterizations that lead to continuous / cost improvements
  • Review/analyze the effectiveness of PDCA, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean Techniques and/or other improvement tools and programs
  • Conduct benchmarking to develop more effective methods for improving quality
  • Support the development of quality engineering and quality compliance with the right skill sets for new product introductions, and product life cycle management.
  • Champion adherence to Quality Core Principles and Quality Management system (QMS)
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and training on continuous improvement, as requested, by other functional departments. This includes audits and surveillances of operations, contracts, quality, purchasing, and engineering departments
  • Ensure requirements that are defined as Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) and/or Critical-to-Process (CTP) are defined, understood, aligned with current capabilities, and are managed to ensure conformance
  • Determine and assign company quality codes to products and components, as needed
  • Review and approve all drawings and engineering change orders as part of the system workflows
  • Review and approve requisitions and purchase orders to suppliers to ensure adequate quality requirements are applied
  • Identify, measure, analyze, and report the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ). Make recommendations to senior leadership on corrective actions required to reduce COPQ
  • Support quality management programs, engineering, and manufacturing during customer interface and product/program customer submittals
  • Maintain non-conforming material database and assure effective follow-up of root cause and corrective actions
  • Participate in supplier kickoff meetings, ensure supplier understanding and compliance to assigned company quality codes. Require suppliers to be accountable for providing quality plans and documentation that are sufficient to ensure requirements meet expectations
  • Manage all quality-related issues within the product team (e.g. Internal, supplier, customer, and customer warranty)
  • Conduct investigation, bounding, documentation, review and approval of non-conformances, CAPAs and customer complaints. Escalation of quality issues as appropriate.
  • Accountability of Quality metrics including maintenance and reviewing of leading and lagging indicators of quality Product/Process Qualification
  • Lead problem solving initiatives on supplier component concerns
  • Visit suppliers to resolve product performance concerns
  • Coordinate First Article Submissions and ensure all part qualification requirements are met for supplier changes
  • Develop, interpret and implement appropriate process monitoring and control methods consistent with the level of process/product risk.
  • Collect data and execute/conduct various analytical/statistical analysis and interpretation as part of process improvements and day-to-day support.
  • Ensure control plans and associated documentation are implemented effectively and maintained
  • Monitor and report on quality-related key performance indicators including scrap monitoring, rework levels, supplier performance
  • Lead and maintain internal material review board (MRB)
  • Assist with writing and conducting product test procedures
  • Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to adhere to process and prevent occurrence of any non-conformity relating to product, process or system
  • Promote the use of preferred techniques for continuous improvement such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), and Measurement System Analysis
  • Participate in cross-functional teams in the development of new products or changes related to current products in meeting customer requirements
  • Participate in the development and refinement of D/PFMEA's (Design and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
  • Keep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that concern product quality
  • Achieve goals within budget
  • Attend various meetings and action/communicate status or instructions
  • Produce well-written reports and presentations

Qualifications

REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. Commensurate and demonstrated experience may be substituted for a degree
  • Minimum 10 years of product quality experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working in an ISO9001 QMS
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with no supervision
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (P/N creation, BoM creation, ECO generation and management, AVL management, etc.)
  • Experience working with suppliers and purchasing organizations
  • Lean/Six Sigma manufacturing experience
  • Leads/participates in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to utilize Solid Works to read, edit and create parts drawings
  • Ability to utilize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance in the analysis of current and future products
  • Strong written communications (Developing reports, business correspondence, and creating procedure manuals
  • Skillset to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to interpret, and explain with clarity, complex mechanical design drawings and documentation
  • Must be able to perform well both autonomously and in working with teams
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality management systems and principles and a variety of operational excellence processes
  • Training in Six Sigma, Lean management desired
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, suppliers, customers, and regulatory agencies
  • Practical experience in problem solving and root cause analysis methods
  • The ability to obtain security clearance may be required


DESIRED
  • Knowledge of the Navy Quality Assurance and Certification programs, including Level 1, SUBSAFE, and DSS-SOC
  • Experience with Deep Submergence Systems
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA Acquisition Programs

The salary range for this position is $118,600 - $177,800.
