Quality Engineer II - Structured Cabling

SUMMARY

Mortenson is looking for a Quality Engineer II in our Structured Cabling group to assist and coach project teams in the execution of Mortenson's Quality system and execute operating group level Quality initiatives that will require managing, monitoring, reporting, and analyzing project and operating group quality performance, and making recommendations for improvement.

Location: TBD - location and project will be assigned. This role will require 100% travel on a rotational basis (on average it could be 3-4 weeks on a project site / about 1 week at home. This schedule is an estimate as it is also based on project need)

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Foster strong teamwork orientation, promote diversity, and build cross-cultural relationships, resolving conflicts appropriately
  • Study and interpret plans, drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and risks
  • Serve as a technical resource and guide to project team members who are incorporating Mortenson's Quality system and Three-phase Planning process
  • Lead project Quality kick-offs and lead/execute instructor-led training modules in Quality
  • Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, Project and Field Engineers to develop and implement project Quality Plans, DFW logs, Standardized Work Plans, Turnover and Project Close-out requirements, etc.
  • Train and coach project teams to implement the Project Quality Plan from notice to proceed through final acceptance, understand quality requirements and ensure compliance with contract documents
  • Ensure project teams utilize accepted standards and processes to manage Non-Conformance Records (NCRs), the Request for Information (RFI) process, and submittals process
  • Partner with project teams to capture and share lessons learned and best practices that identify opportunities to minimize risk and improve overall project execution
  • Support operating group-wide Quality initiatives
  • Demonstrate leadership consistent with Mortenson values


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other science or mathematical related degree, or equivalent combination of education and technical/field experience demonstrated over multiple years of related work experience, or Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role, including experience within the design, engineering, construction industry, and/or telecommunications industry
  • Basic knowledge of one or more quality systems: i.e., Malcolm Baldridge, ISO 9000, Lean, Kaizen, Army Corps of Engineers, TQM, continuous improvement, value streams, etc.
  • Understanding of Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) process.
  • Self-starter, independent worker, computer literate
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong teamwork orientation
  • Current driver's license
  • Ability to travel 100%


Preferred Skills:
  • Mechanical aptitude and general knowledge of structured cabling components, cabinets, pathway systems (cable tray), related communications & infrastructure materials such as low voltage category cabling, fiber optic cabling, communications cabling, communication equipment, other various low voltage related systems (enhanced Category 5, Category 6 and Fiber Optic Structured Cable Distribution Systems, etc.) and/or associated testing as such as OTDR, VFL, OTSC, etc.
  • Experience/knowledge of International Building Code (IBC), , the BICSI international standards program for the ICT industry, including applicable ANSI code requirements and/or Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) code requirements for ICT

The base compensation range for this role is: $89,500 - 120,800. Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skill, and experience with consideration given to internal equity.
