Job PurposeA Quality Engineer works within a program team to ensure compliance to the Quality Management System and program requirements as defined by both ABSL and the customer. In addition, the Quality Engineer coordinates root cause, corrective action activities and program closure documentation deliverables.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Implement internal QMS within assigned programs.
- Act as a liaison with customer's quality representative to support project communication on quality matters, including mandatory inspections.
- Work directly with internal program managers and customer's quality representatives to resolve quality issues
- Participate in design reviews and project milestone reviews
- Review and approve project documentation for compliance with appropriate quality standards and practices. Includes, but not limited to: Drawings, Schematics, Manufacturing and Test travelers, Rework documentation
- Participate in and prepare content for internal reviews that precede major phases of a project to ensure completion of documentation, availability of resources and checking of quality and safety standards
- Lead and facilitate MRB Meetings, including publishing of notes, action items with owners, providing problem solving guidance, and coordinating corrective action activities as required by QMS procedures.
- Oversight of project documentation to ensure maintenance of configuration control
- Control of supplier's parts, materials and process selection on assigned programs to ensure compliance with appropriate quality standards and practices
- Support 3rd party, customer and internal audits
- Able to resolve problems with minimal input from others.
- Ownership, maintenance, reporting, and process improvement for assigned overhead QMS process (ex. Maintain Humidity/Temperature monitoring systems, department ESD coordinator, etc.)
- Back up quality inspection support for manufacturing and test processes
- Participates in process CIP activities in key process areas
- Perform internal audits
- Perform supplier audits as required
- Training of new Quality Inspectors or Quality Engineers to key processes
QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- One of the following combinations of education and relevant experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, physical science, or a related technical field
- Associate degree in a related technical field and at least six years of relevant experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least ten years of relevant experience.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to read, understand, and evaluate technical documents, procedures, drawings, and specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to learn applicable quality standards, customer requirements, and ABSL's Quality Management System.
NICE TO HAVE- Academic or professional experience in quality, engineering, manufacturing, or a related field.
- Experience working with high-reliability products in the aerospace, defense, electronics, medical device, or other regulated manufacturing industry.
- Familiarity with quality management standards such as AS9100 or ISO 9001.
- Exposure to nonconformance management, Material Review Board activities, root-cause analysis, or corrective action.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, manufacturing documentation, or test documentation.
- Familiarity with configuration management, supplier quality, or internal auditing.
- Experience with lithium-ion batteries, electrical assemblies, or spaceflight hardware.
Compensation Range: $76,400 - $95,800
(Compensation may vary based on applicant's work experience, education level, skill set, and/or location.)
