Full Job Description
As the Quality Engineer at our Houston facility, you will be the first dedicated quality resource on site, responsible for establishing and running the site's quality function from the ground up. This is a hands-on role: you will be accountable both for performing day-to-day quality activities - inspections, audits, and non-conformance resolution - and for the overall oversight and continual improvement of the site's Quality Management System (QMS), aligned to ISO 9001:2015. Because the QMS is jointly certified across our US and UK sites, you will also work closely with the UK SHEQ team and report into the Senior SHEQ Manager on quality matters, ensuring the site's practices remain aligned with the shared, group-wide certification. You will work closely with production, engineering, sales, and site leadership to build a strong quality culture and ensure customer and regulatory requirements are consistently met.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Maintain and continually improve the site's Quality Management System (QMS) in line with ISO 9001:2015, as the first dedicated quality function on site.
• Plan and lead the internal audit program - scheduling, conducting, and reporting internal audits, and driving corrective actions through to closure.
• Develop and maintain quality control plans, inspection criteria, and work instructions for incoming, in-process, and final product inspection.
• Personally perform hands-on quality inspections, measurements, and testing on the shop floor - this role is accountable for doing the work as well as overseeing it.
• Own the non-conformance and corrective action process, including root-cause investigation, containment, and verification of effectiveness.
• Lead and coordinate external certification audits (e.g., ISO 9001 registrar audits) and customer audits, acting as the site's primary quality contact.
• Audit, qualify, and manage supply chain partners against quality requirements, including supplier corrective action requests.
• Collaborate closely with the UK SHEQ team and Senior SHEQ Manager to keep the site's quality practices, documentation, and internal audit program aligned with the jointly certified, group-wide IMS.
• Support joint/group internal and external audits spanning both the US and UK sites, and help ensure consistent implementation of shared ISO 9001:2015 requirements across the business.
• Serve as the main point of contact for customers and suppliers on quality-related matters, including complaint investigation and resolution.
• Track, analyze, and report quality metrics to site and business leadership.
• Lead management review of the quality system and drive continual improvement activities across the site.
• Control documented information, including procedures, work instructions, specifications, and quality records.
• Train and coach production, sales, and engineering staff on quality standards, procedures, and fostering a quality-first culture.
• Help shape and scale the site's quality processes and future quality team structure as the business grows.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 3 years of Quality Engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working in highly regulated industries (defence, marine, energy, aerospace)
• ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor certification and hands-on internal audit experience required.
• Working knowledge of core quality tools and methodologies.
• Experience developing and maintaining quality management system documentation, non-conformance, and processes.
• SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality) background or exposure to integrated management systems is a nice to have.
• Familiarity with ASME/ASTM specifications for materials
• Welding knowledge
• Good understanding of non-destructive examination and testing

Comfortable working independently and building processes from the ground up, given this is the first quality role on site.
• Proficient in computer skills, including MS Office applications and familiarity with document management software.
• Strong organizational abilities, capable of multitasking and prioritizing tasks effectively.
• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization, from shop floor to site leadership.
• Ready and able to undertake hands-on activities on the production floor as the task requires.
• Willingness to embrace continuous learning and adapt to new procedures and technologies.
• Ability to travel occasionally to customer or supplier sites, as needed.
