Full Job Description
You are:

A quality-focused engineer who believes quality is built into delivery rather than inspected in at the end. You use automation, risk-based testing, data, and engineering judgment to create confidence across federal applications and releases. You may be strengthening your automation foundation or already be ready to independently own quality for features, services, or delivery workstreams. As your scope grows, you may progress from building and maintaining automated tests to defining quality strategy, improving test frameworks, leading performance/security/accessibility validation, mentoring engineers, and shaping quality standards across teams or programs.

The work:
  • Design, build, maintain, and execute automated tests across UI, API, integration, regression, smoke, and end-to-end testing layers.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams early in delivery to clarify acceptance criteria, identify quality risks, and improve testability.
  • Create test plans, test data, defect workflows, reporting, and quality metrics that support release decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and help teams shift quality left throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Validate APIs, web applications, data flows, integrations, and cloud-based applications across functional and nonfunctional requirements.
  • Support performance, security, accessibility, Section 508, compliance-oriented, and reliability validation as program needs require.
  • Use AFS-approved AI-assisted testing and engineering tools to accelerate test design, automation, analysis, defect investigation, and documentation while validating results.
  • Collaborate with Digital Experience Engineers, Business Application Engineers, Product Managers, Cloud Platform Engineers, architects, security teams, and client stakeholders.
  • As your experience grows, lead quality strategy for larger product areas, improve frameworks and dashboards, mentor others, and establish quality engineering standards across teams.

Here's what you need:
  • Professional experience in software quality engineering, test automation, SDET, QA automation, or comparable engineering validation work, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more automation frameworks or tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, Appium, JUnit, PyTest, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience testing APIs, web applications, integrations, data flows, or cloud-based applications.
  • Understanding of test design, regression testing, defect management, acceptance criteria, and quality metrics.
  • Experience working with source control, Agile delivery teams, and automated build or deployment processes.
  • For candidates with deeper experience, demonstrated ability to define test strategy, improve frameworks, mentor others, and influence release and quality decisions across teams.

Bonus points if you have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, Locust, k6, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with security testing, OWASP concepts, SAST/DAST, accessibility testing, Section 508, or compliance validation.
  • Experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or comparable CI/CD and test reporting tools.
  • Experience building reusable test frameworks, quality dashboards, test observability, or intelligent test-selection approaches.
  • Ability to communicate quality risks clearly, troubleshoot issues, and take increasing ownership of test automation or quality workstreams.
  • Previous federal consulting, government, or mission-oriented delivery experience.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to work with federal clients and comply with applicable AFS, client, security, and program requirements.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid, remote, or client-site environment as program needs require.
