Job Description:

We're looking for a Welding Engineer to serve as a vital technical resource, ensuring welding processes, qualification testing, and materials compliance support the safety and quality of products used worldwide. This role drives continuous improvement initiatives that significantly impact product excellence and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Do

The successful candidate will support compliance with applicable welding codes, standards, and customer specifications while providing technical expertise in welding processes, materials, certifications, and quality systems. Working cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Regulatory Compliance, and Commercial teams, the Welding Engineer will help develop innovative solutions that support business growth and customer success.

This position offers a chance to develop leadership skills, support and train welding personnel, and take on projects that influence manufacturing improvements. It offers a path to expand your technical expertise and leadership responsibilities over time, supporting professional growth.

Based in Troy, Ohio, this role includes occasional travel to customer sites and other Hobart facilities, offering opportunities to gain diverse experiences and broaden your professional network.

Your Impact
• Lead Weld Quality Compliance activities, including QA testing upgrades, raw material quality issues, regulatory compliance investigations, and weld testing engineering support.
• Support customer, supplier, and internal audits and lead corrective action activities related to welding, materials, and regulatory compliance.
• Develop, engineer, qualify, and oversee weld testing programs to ensure products meet regulatory, product design, and customer application requirements.
• Perform engineering analysis of weld drift, chemical composition, and mechanical properties to identify and mitigate quality risks proactively.
• Implement and drive ITW Toolbox techniques within quality, manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage and perform regulatory reviews for customer-specific and certified orders.
• Interpret and apply AWS, ASME, ISO, Military, and customer welding specifications, standards, and codes.
• Support root cause investigations and corrective action efforts related to welding, material, and fabrication issues.
• Support the qualification and ongoing development of welding personnel.
• Travel occasionally to other Hobart facilities and customer sites as required.

What You'll bring

Qualifications
• Engineering degree: preference for welding; open to materials and metallurgical disciplines.
• Good understanding of FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW is a plus
• Working knowledge and experience with filler metal specifications: AWS, ASME, ISO, and Military - preferred
• Ability to lead, communicate, and influence effectively with multiple functional areas and levels [Engineering, Production, R&D, Customer Service, Marketing, and Sales]
• Must have excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Thorough understanding of computer and web-based technology to support job tasks
• Ability to drive changes as required
• Ability to work in a demanding environment for customer support
• Ability to work with statistical and other quality tools
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills. Previous supervisory experience is a plus. Ability to effectively lead teams and assume increasing management responsibility as organizational needs evolve.
