This lead-level role is roughly 70% leadership, standards, planning, and coaching, and 30% hands-on testing and automation. A key focus is modernizing our existing Playwright/Python framework toward Playwright/TypeScript, using AI-enabled tools to support conversion, test design, and suite maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and coach a small offshore QA engineering team, including day-to-day guidance, work prioritization, and quality oversight.
  • Establish QA best practices, testing standards, documentation expectations, and quality engineering processes across assigned delivery areas.
  • Define consistent approaches for test planning, regression testing, smoke testing, release validation, defect management, and quality metrics.
  • Partner with software engineering, product owners, project managers, business stakeholders, and other IT teams to align testing with delivery timelines and business priorities.
  • Lead modernization of the existing Playwright/Python automation framework toward a scalable Playwright/TypeScript framework.
  • Build, expand, and maintain automated test suites for UI, API, integration, regression, and critical business process testing.
  • Use AI-enabled tools where appropriate to support automation conversion, test generation, test data creation, defect analysis, and productivity improvements.
  • Support hands-on testing and automation when needed due to skill gaps, capacity constraints, project complexity, or conflicting priorities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in QA process maturity, automation coverage, release confidence, and overall software quality.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years performing, building, and establishing QA, software testing, and software quality engineering experience, including at least 2 years leading QA engineers, offshore teams, or test automation initiatives.
  • Strong experience with test automation frameworks and modern quality engineering practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright required; TypeScript experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Python-based Playwright automation preferred, especially in environments transitioning to TypeScript.
  • Strong understanding of API testing, integration testing, regression testing, functional testing, smoke testing, and release validation.
  • Experience establishing QA standards, test strategies, defect processes, quality metrics, and release readiness practices.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and prioritize work for offshore QA engineers in a fast-paced delivery environment.
  • CI/CD concepts and experience integrating automated tests into build, deployment, or release pipelines.
  • SQL or data validation experience to support testing of integrations, APIs, reporting, and internal business applications.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across U.S.-based and offshore teams.
  • Experience testing eCommerce platforms, APIs, integrations, internal business applications, or related technologies preferred.
  • Retail industry experience preferred.

Preferred Technical Skills
  • Playwright and TypeScript for automated testing of web applications, APIs, integrations, and critical business workflows.
  • Bitbucket or similar source control platforms, including branching, pull requests, and code reviews.
  • Test management tools such as TestRail or similar platforms for test cases, test plans, regression suites, execution results, and traceability.
  • API testing tools and practices, including REST API validation, Postman or similar tools, Swagger/OpenAPI documentation, and integration testing strategies.
  • Jira and Confluence for defect tracking, Agile delivery, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled development or QA tools that support test generation, automation conversion, code review, defect analysis, or productivity improvement.
