Amazon Robotics Delivery and Packaging Innovation (RDPI) Global Engineering Hardware team is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Engineer I to join our Test Engineering team. This team operates in a multi-disciplinary environment of hardware engineers, controls engineers, and test engineers dedicated to advancing sustainable packaging automation and robotics technologies that fulfill millions of customer orders every day.
The Quality Assurance Engineer I works closely with cross-functional teams to execute system-level functional verification testing (L1) throughout the product development process (PDP) and product lifecycle. You will be responsible for creating and executing test plans, test cases, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for system-level verification and validation tests to support new technology and product development programs. This includes executing functional hardware testing, tracking and reporting defects, maintaining requirements traceability, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
These system-level processes integrate sensors, actuators, mechanisms, controls, computer, electrical, and human interactions to deliver systems that meet and exceed customer, safety, regulatory, and business requirements. This is done through the execution of test plans, documentation of test results, defect tracking and triage, automation of repetitive test tasks, and presenting results, feedback, and recommendations to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Key job responsibilities
- Execute comprehensive test plans for L1 functional system-level verification of packaging automation and robotics technologies
- Create and maintain test cases for straightforward scenarios involving one or more product components and features
- Perform system-level functional testing against defined KPIs and acceptance criteria, ensuring quality is measured quantitatively (not "check the box")
- Track, document, and triage defects with relevant details; perform initial root cause analysis and escalate appropriately
- Maintain requirements traceability matrices (RTM) to ensure complete test coverage across functional requirements
- Develop and maintain test automation scripts to reduce manual effort and improve test accuracy
- Clearly document test results, procedures, and findings for future generations of testers
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineers (hardware, software, controls, reliability, operations) and technical program managers throughout the product development process
- Support safety certification testing of projects/platforms
- Travel to Amazon fulfillment centers across North America to execute tests and collect data (50-75% travel required)
- Participate in defect triage, test planning, scoping, and testing prioritization discussions
- Train new team members on team procedures and test methodologies
- Maintain and expand lab infrastructure to accommodate product releases and testing needs
A day in the life
As a Quality Assurance Engineer I on the RDPI team, you'll spend your days working hands-on in lab environments and at fulfillment centers across North America, validating packaging, automation, and robotics technologies. You might start your morning executing a functional test plan on a newly deployed packaging system, documenting pass/fail results against defined KPIs. Mid-morning, you could be triaging defects from overnight testing, isolating bugs, and providing detailed reproduction steps to hardware engineers. In the afternoon, you might be writing automation scripts to streamline repetitive data collection tasks, or collaborating with controls engineers to verify safety interlock functionality. You'll document your findings in test reports, communicate results to stakeholders, and help ensure our automation solutions meet customer experience, safety, and business requirements before deployment at scale.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of quality assurance engineering experience
- Experience in automation testing
- Experience in manual testing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in API & Mobile testing
- Experience designing and planning test conditions, test scripts, and test data sets to ensure appropriate and adequate coverage and control
