Full Job Description
Summary of Position
The QA/QC Manager - Data Centers / Mission Critical is responsible for leading all quality assurance and quality control efforts on complex data center and mission critical projects. This position ensures that all architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage systems are installed in strict accordance with contract documents, manufacturer requirements, commissioning specifications, and owner standards. The QA/QC Manager works closely with field leadership, trade partners, commissioning teams, and owners to drive a culture of quality, minimize rework, and support successful system startup, integrated testing, and facility turnover.
Preferred Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of QA/QC experience on mission critical or data center projects.
  • 10+ years of commercial construction experience, preferably in Superintendent, MEP, Commissioning, or Quality leadership roles.
  • Experience with hyperscale, colocation, enterprise data centers, high-tech, semiconductor, healthcare, or other mission critical facilities preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of commissioning processes, startup procedures, integrated systems testing (IST), and turnover requirements.
  • Understanding of critical mechanical and electrical systems including:

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and enforce the Project Quality Management Plan.
  • Establish quality standards and inspection processes for all trades, with special emphasis on critical MEP systems.
  • Lead preparatory meetings, first-work inspections, and quality audits for major scopes of work.
  • Review and track shop drawings, material submittals, RFIs, commissioning specifications, and owner standards for quality compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, MEP Coordinators, VDC teams, and Commissioning Agents.
  • Perform routine field inspections to verify installation quality and specification compliance.
  • Identify quality deficiencies early and ensure corrective actions are implemented prior to system testing.
  • Develop and maintain project punch lists, deficiency logs, and quality trend reports.
  • Verify completion of quality inspections required before equipment startup and commissioning activities.
  • Monitor subcontractor quality performance and establish accountability measures.
  • Ensure all testing procedures comply with project specifications and commissioning requirements.
  • Support Factory Witness Tests (FWT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), Startup Verification, Functional Performance Testing (FPT), and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Coordinate quality documentation required for commissioning and facility turnover.
  • Ensure complete turnover packages are assembled, including:
    • Test Reports
    • Startup Reports
    • As-Built Documentation
    • O&M Manuals
    • Equipment Certifications
    • Warranty Documentation
    • Training Records
  • Participate in owner quality meetings, commissioning meetings, and executive project reviews.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned programs across mission critical projects.

The QA/QC Manager must possess:

  • Working knowledge of ANSI, NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE, IEEE, Uptime Institute, and owner-specific standards.

  • Experience managing quality on large-scale MEP-intensive projects.

  • Ability to coordinate effectively with owners, commissioning agents, design teams, and trade partners.
