Job Title: QA Supervisor - OvernightsJob DescriptionThe QA Supervisor - Overnights oversees food safety and quality assurance programs within a fast-paced food manufacturing facility during the night shift. This role leads a team of QA technicians and quality staff, ensures compliance with regulatory and customer requirements, and drives continuous improvement across operations. The supervisor partners closely with Operations, Sanitation, Maintenance, Warehousing, and Supply Chain to maintain rigorous standards of food safety, product quality, and documentation integrity.
Responsibilities- Supervise and manage QA technicians and hourly quality staff on the overnight shift, providing clear direction and support.
- Lead onboarding, training, and ongoing development of QA personnel to ensure strong technical skills and consistent performance.
- Allocate QA resources and manage workflows to meet departmental, production, and operational goals.
- Ensure effective food safety and quality training is delivered and reinforced across cross-functional teams.
- Support implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of food safety programs and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee and verify adherence to HACCP, GMP, SSOP, and prerequisite programs throughout the facility.
- Monitor production activities on the floor to ensure compliance with internal quality standards and food safety requirements.
- Analyze production and quality data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for process and product improvement.
- Review production records and perform thorough pre-shipment checks to ensure only compliant product is released.
- Lead investigations into customer complaints, non-conformances, deviations, and in-process quality issues, documenting findings and outcomes.
- Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), ensuring timely implementation, verification of effectiveness, and proper documentation.
- Partner closely with sanitation teams to verify cleaning effectiveness and identify areas for improvement in sanitation programs.
- Generate clear and detailed shift reports, communicating findings, issues, and action items across departments to support timely resolution.
- Maintain strong communication and collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders regarding quality and food safety matters.
- Support and participate in regulatory and third-party inspections and audits as needed.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality and food safety issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Own all quality and food safety responsibilities for the overnight shift, ensuring consistent execution of programs and standards.
Essential Skills- 3-5+ years of experience in food safety and quality within a USDA-regulated food manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent hands-on experience in food manufacturing quality.
- Experience in quality assurance within food and beverage or aseptic production environments.
- Working knowledge of HACCP principles and their application in a production environment.
- Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and sanitation programs.
- Working knowledge of food safety and quality systems, including documentation and verification activities.
- Experience with audits, inspections, CAPA, document control, and batch record review.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities to interpret data and drive improvements.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including production, sanitation, and leadership.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to take initiative and proactively address food safety and quality concerns on the production floor.
- Ability to work the overnight shift from approximately 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Prior supervisory or team lead experience in a food manufacturing quality or QA environment.
- HACCP certification strongly preferred.
- Additional food safety or quality certifications such as SQF are a plus.
- Background in food science, food safety, or a related scientific field.
- Experience with USDA, FDA, and other relevant regulatory requirements for food and beverage manufacturing.
- Experience in quality control, quality checks, and batch record review in a production setting.
- Experience working in bilingual or multilingual teams; ability to work effectively with Spanish-speaking colleagues is beneficial.
Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a new food manufacturing facility operating seven days a week and is dedicated to the overnight shift, typically from 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The QA Supervisor spends most of the shift on the production floor, closely monitoring operations and working directly with cross-functional teams, while also having access to an office for documentation, data analysis, and reporting. The supervisor oversees a small QA team of approximately 2-3 direct reports and collaborates extensively with a large sanitation team of about 50 people on the overnight shift. The environment is fast-paced and highly collaborative, with a strong focus on food safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. Some team members speak primarily Spanish, so the ability to work effectively in a multilingual environment is important. The facility follows standard food manufacturing practices, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to GMPs on the production floor.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
