Job Description

Position Summary: The Purchasing Agent will work within the Purchasing department and will report to a Purchasing Manager. The Purchasing Agent is a vital position working with various project teams to buy out work. Key components of the position are to build Trade Contractor relationships, issue and manage RFPs, negotiate scopes of construction work and draft contracts for issuance to successful bidders. This position will be fully in-office at the Seattle Main Office.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Draft and issue request for proposal packages for construction project procurement.
  • Participate in pre-bid and post-bid meetings.
  • Manage the bid package process, including advertise, issue addenda, and manage the bid package processes.
  • Receive and compare bids for bid packages, including cost and scope negotiation.
  • Draft and issue subcontracts, purchase agreements, and purchase orders.
  • Attend and support local outreach efforts in the subcontracting community.
  • Provide internal support to project teams and operations as needed.
  • Respond to subcontractor inquiries.
  • Maintain subcontractor and project information records.


QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Experience and Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a construction related profession, business administration, or equivalent degree and/or equivalent work experience required.
  • At least two (2) years of purchasing experience preferred, including an understanding of the Washington GC/CM Bidding requirements.

  • Be customer service oriented while working with both internal and external clients.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to collaborate with various personnel within and across departments and at all levels of leadership.
  • Ability to work well and maintain a cooperative attitude through high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work while frequently interrupted by phone calls and questions on work in progress.
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Teams) and have a general understanding of working within a computer network.
  • Working knowledge of Smartsheet and Bluebeam preferred.
  • Ability to work well in a large professional setting. Patience and professionalism are essential.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Standing/Walking/Sitting: workday is combination of standing, walking and sitting.
  • Must be able to climb stairs: 5% of day.
  • Hands/Arms: constant use of hands/fingers for mouse/keyboard/computer use.
  • Sight: visual acuity in near, mid, and far range vision. Color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, hand/eye coordination.
  • Hearing: sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone.
  • Speech: sufficient to make oneself heard in person, speak in front of groups, and be understood over the telephone.
  • Lift/Carry: Up to 20lbs. Computer/drawings - minimal.
  • Bending/Twisting: minimal.
  • Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: minimal.
  • Constant mental alertness, accuracy, and attention to detail required.
  • Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and follow through on all assignments.
  • Must use creativity, independent judgment, and organizational and problem-solving skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results.
  • Must be able to plan and organize work.
  • Must possess strong organizational and computer use skills and have a high level of competency to read/write/speak English, interpret construction related documentation and communicate with coworkers.
