DESCRIPTION The PositionThe
Public Works Supervisor plans and supervises assigned programs and/or services in the Streetscape Division of the Public Works Department. Assigned programs and/or services include tree trimming, removals and landscape median maintenance within the street right-of-way or other easements. Work involves planning, prioritizing and scheduling assigned programs and/or services; supervising, evaluating and training work crews engaged in daily operations; reviewing and approving completed activity; obtaining, allocating and maximizing resources; and preparing and maintaining operational and administrative records.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINESEducation and ExperienceThree years of progressively responsible experience with at least two of the three years directly related to landscape leadership; and a high school diploma or equivalent.
Formal technical training in a relevant field is preferred.
Licenses and/or Certificates Requires a valid California commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements.
NOTE: This position requires a California Class B driver's license at a minimum and
Must possess and maintain an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist credential.Ideal CandidateIn addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate will possess:
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work;
- Knowledge of supervision principles and practices;
- Strong organizational skills and self-motivation;
- Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Outstanding customer service skills;
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with management, staff, the public, contractors, and public agencies;
- California Department of Pesticide Regulation Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) or Qualified Applicator License (QAL).
- Knowledge of tree maintenance, tree identification, and tree assessment.
- Knowledge of planning, installing, and maintaining irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of Arbor Access tree inventory system.
- Knowledge of Accela system.
- Knowledge of plants; identification, function, characteristics, and health.
