Definition and Class CharacteristicsCOUNTYWIDE PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITYOPEN TO CURRENT, REGULAR COUNTY OF NEVADA EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE COMPLETED TWELVE MONTHS OF SATISFACTORY PROBATIONARY SERVICEINTERVIEWS FOR SELECTED CANDIDATES WILL BE HELD FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2026 Examples of DutiesThe Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator serves as the Medical Health Operational Area Coordinator (MHOAC) or MHOAC Designee; serves as the 24/7/365 single point of contact for the MHOAC Program, is responsible for monitoring, ensuring and procuring medical and health resources during a local emergency or disaster and for working with the Regional Disaster Medical Health Coordinator to submit and respond to medical and health requests for resources outside the Operational Area.
This position plans, coordinates, and implements public health emergency preparedness activities including pre-emergency planning, emergency response activities, and post-emergency functions. This includes ongoing planning and participation in local, regional, state, and national forums to strengthen the public health infrastructure in Nevada County. This position is fully qualified to independently perform the full range of duties. Under general direction of the Director Public Health, this individual provides expertise in public health preparedness to respond to incidents of bio-terrorism, infectious disease outbreaks and other public health threats and emergencies. The incumbent assesses public health emergency preparedness needs and works in partnership with other employees, departments and divisions, agencies, and the public in delivering effective, integrated and innovative services. Additionally, the incumbent will take a leadership role in the development, implementation, and service delivery coordination of Nevada County's Public Health Emergency Prevention and Response Plans as well as other emergency response documents.
Knowledge and Skills Required The ideal candidate will:
- Have two years of experience in planning and executing emergency preparedness or response activities.

- Possess strong Microsoft Office suite skills, especially Excel and Word.
Education and Experience Required Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in emergency management, public health, health sciences, public administration, environmental health, or a related field AND two years of experience in planning and executing emergency preparedness or response activities.
