Job Duties

At Catawba Hospital, psychologists contribute directly to assessment, treatment, behavioral support and discharge planning for adults receiving inpatient psychiatric care. You will work with multidisciplinary treatment teams to turn clinical findings into recommendations that guide patient care.

What you will bring to the work
Conduct and interpret comprehensive psychological assessments and evaluations to support diagnosis, treatment planning, risk assessment, and court-related needs.

Provide individual, group and family psychotherapy and psychoeducation, and respond to patients who need crisis intervention.

Consult with treatment teams and hospital staff on behavioral guidelines, individualized interventions, treatment planning and discharge planning.

Responsibilities include
Reviewing patient records, conducting clinical interviews, selecting and administering appropriate psychological and neuropsychological tests, interpreting assessment results, and communicating findings and recommendations through written reports and oral presentations.

Providing individual, group, and family psychotherapy and psychoeducation.

Selecting appropriate treatment modalities based on patient needs.

Providing crisis intervention and psychological services to promote patient safety, recovery, and optimal psychological functioning.

Providing clinical consultation and behavioral management recommendations to treatment teams and hospital staff, including development and evaluation of behavioral guidelines, milieu planning, staff education, and individualized behavioral interventions.

Maintaining timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with hospital requirements and applicable standards.

Actively participating in multidisciplinary treatment teams by providing psychological expertise.

Contributing to diagnosis and treatment planning.

Developing behavioral management plans.

Assisting with team leadership.

Supporting discharge planning.

Providing clinical recommendations to colleagues, and

Providing cross-coverage as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree in psychology from an appropriately accredited program and a current, unrestricted license as a Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia (to be obtained within one year of hire).

Requires knowledge and demonstrated ability in psychological assessment, diagnosis, psychological testing, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, behavioral management, and multidisciplinary treatment planning.

Must be able to independently provide psychological services, conduct and interpret psychological assessments, develop treatment recommendations, provide clinical consultation, and prepare professional clinical reports.

Additional Considerations

Experience providing psychological services in an inpatient psychiatric, forensic, behavioral health, or other high-acuity clinical setting is highly desired.
