Job Overview:

RWJBH is seeking a PMHNP for an outpatient child and adolescents position. This position provides assessment and certification of program intakes, oversight of treatment process, assessment for medication needs, medication monitoring and provides an evaluation of clients for medical and emotional/behavioral problems as needed.

Essential Functions
  • Performs comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, including mental status, developmental and functional status
  • Analyzes assessment data to determine nursing and medical diagnosis; utilizes current DSM nomenclature for diagnosis
  • Manages patients with acute and chronic disorders in collaboration with the treatment team
  • Develop a prioritized comprehensive problem list
  • Identify expected patient outcomes in collaboration with patient, family, and other professionals
  • Prioritizes and initiates pertinent diagnostic test(s) including, but not limited to radiology and lobs
  • Prescribed psychiatric medication in collaboration with prescribing psychiatrist, assessing for clinical
  • response and possible side effects
  • Collects patient data on an ongoing basis prioritized according to the patient's immediate condition or needs
  • Provides individual, group and family therapy
  • Document in the patient's record all pertinent patient interactions and care according to standards
  • Identify risk factors and provide health teaching and discharge planning for primary and secondary prevention
  • Make referrals to appropriate person or services
  • Provide discharge instructions with prescriptions given and follow- up visits arranged
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, and visitors of all
  • age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs
  • Provides Case Management services as assigned
  • Performs advanced procedures as allowed by state nurse practice act under guidance from collaborating physician
  • Contributed to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others upon request
  • Participates in interdisciplinary quality improvement efforts to improve clinical practice by attending team/ss/rounds and other improvement activities
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge in advanced practice
  • Serves as member of nurse practice committee when requested
  • Compiles monthly management statistics when relevant
  • Offers community -based educational programs as relevant and as requested
  • Makes home visits in accordance with standards and in keeping with treatment plans
  • Other duties as assigned
