Job Description

The Psych Emergency Clinician Supervisor provides direct/indirect clinical supervision to central access clinicians to enhance their individual clinical skills and the quality of services to patients. Develops goals and managing fiscal activities of the department. Responsible for oversight of daily operations related to clinical evaluations and administrative functions, procedures and protocols. Supervises administrative operations including scheduling/registration, and direct patient care. Works collaboratively with physicians, therapists and other team members of the behavioral health team to effect timely, appropriate patient care management. Collaborates with other department leaders, providers and team members with in Inova, and external agencies to help support the care and disposition of patients.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises clinical operations and direct patient care. Supervises day to day operations of mental health techs and liaisons. Completes shift and monthly reports timely. Provides guidance and assistance to administrative team with logistical issues related to scheduling, billing, and patient relations.
  • Actively seeks out guidance and support as needed from department Director and/or Medical Director.
  • Supports crisis intervention, evaluation, safety planning and discharge planning, case management, assessment, case presentation.
  • Assesses and diagnoses mental health and/or substance use disorders through a bio/psycho/social department specific and evidenced based assessment identifying patient and family goals and need. In the absence of the manager/Director, may provide program/department/unit clinical leadership.
  • Demonstrates clinical autonomy in the provision of care, recommendations and referrals while striving to increase professional knowledge, develop expertise and work toward certifications.
  • Practices within the Code of Ethics of the credentialing discipline.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Additional Requirements

Certification - Basic Life Support upon start, CPI in-person training for non-violent crisis intervention, receive CPI blue card within 6 months of hire, Approved Clinical Supervisor within 3 months - completion of Board mandated continuing education in clinical supervision Licensure - Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), or Licensed Substance Abuse Professional (LSATP).Experience - 5 years of experience, 3 of which are post-licensure, working in the psychiatric or mental health field with the seriously mentally ill. Education - Masters Degree Master's degree, PhD, PsyD, Psychology, Social work/ counseling/ Behavioral Science and Health
