Job Summary

The Divisions of Hematology & Hematologic Malignancies and Oncology of the University of Utah's School of Medicine are looking for passionate candidates to enter the Postgraduate APP Fellowship. This is a 12-month program, built to create a structural environment to offer the opportunity to receive comprehensive training, to broaden and strengthen medical knowledge with the focus on Hematology/Oncology. The fellow will rotate with the inpatient and outpatient services at the University Hospital and the Huntsman Cancer Hospital. Our goal is to build confident providers, with effective communication and analytical skills functioning in a collaborative environment, capable of advancing to take on full responsibility and autonomy in patient care. To apply, every applicant will include supporting evidence of successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program. Certification and licensure to practice and prescribe (with an active DEA license or DEA application) must also be provided. Acceptance to the fellowship will be granted based on CV, letter of intent, three letters of recommendation, a personal interview, and a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.
Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient's condition.
Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
Participates in quality improvement activities.
Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance.
Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.
Problem Solving

Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area.
Demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills.
Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.

Minimum Qualifications

Required
Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred
Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
