Propulsion Structures Engineering Manager
Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Southern California Propulsion Systems Engineering team is seeking a First Line Mechanical and Structural Engineering Manager (Level K) to lead propulsion structural analysis and propulsion design engineering efforts in Long Beach, CA.
In this leadership role you will manage a multidisciplinary team responsible for design, analysis, and certification of out-of-production airplane models, all aftermarket modifications, and propulsion-related systems across BCA design centers—including the Auxiliary Power System for current and new airplane programs. You will apply your stress-analysis and systems-engineering expertise to oversee structural analysis work for Auxiliary Power Systems, engine build-up, fuel systems, and nacelle structures, while partnering with program leaders, customers, and suppliers.
This position offers the opportunity to influence airplane safety, reliability, and performance across development, in-service support, and global services—candidate must be ready to lead technical teams, drive solutions, and travel as needed.
Positions Responsibilities:
Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in Propulsion Structural Analysis and Propulsion Design Engineering.
Develops and executes project and process plans; implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals.
Acquires resources for projects and processes and provides technical management of suppliers.
Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.
Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.
Proactively communicates with employees, peers and customers; keeps others informed by communicating project status, conducting and participating in team meetings, providing presentations and listening to employee concerns and suggestions.
Communicates policies and directives to enhance employee awareness of expectations.
Systematically evaluates proper job classification of employees, sets employee goals and objectives, and manages and evaluates performance on a recurring basis.
Coaches, counsels, mentors and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance employee performance and expand capabilities.
Manages propulsion structural analysis skill team to support current and future propulsion engineering functional excellence.
Leads execution of engineering activities to ensure first-time quality and on-time performance.
Leads development of technical and business solutions in support of new airplane programs, in-production airplane programs and post-production airplane programs including Boeing Global Services and Customer Support.
Provides core competency on propulsion structural analysis related issues and solves problems on Boeing airplanes.
Inspires employees by championing forward-thinking and innovative solutions.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Material Sciences)
5+ years of engineering experience
Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course Exploring Leadership
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
5+ years of experience structural and/or propulsion engineering
Experience working with regulatory agencies
Knowledge of aerospace engineering design concepts, processes, and techniques
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to provide proactive leadership in dynamic and ambiguous environments to drive technical excellence
Ability to translate diverse perspectives within a team to develop strategies, make informed decisions, and implement innovative business models or process improvements
Act as a change agent by identifying strengths and weaknesses in existing operating models, tools, and processes, and collaborating with others to define and implement improvements
