Submit Your ApplicationPosition DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Highway Heavy Dirt Superintendent to oversee and manage all aspects of heavy dirt and earthwork operations on highway construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating crews, managing equipment, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining project schedules and budgets. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in heavy civil construction, and a deep understanding of earthwork, grading, and excavation for highway infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervise and coordinate heavy dirt operations, including excavation, grading, embankment, and soil stabilization on highway projects.
- Manage daily field operations ensuring work is completed on schedule, within budget, and according to project specifications.
- Oversee subcontractors, labor crews, and equipment operators to maximize productivity and maintain quality standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and other stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure project compliance.
- Enforce safety policies and procedures in adherence to OSHA regulations and company standards.
- Monitor equipment usage and maintenance to optimize operational efficiency.
- Review project plans, specifications, and survey data to plan and execute earthwork activities.
- Track progress and prepare daily reports, documentation, and project updates.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to soil conditions, weather, and site logistics.
- Implement and maintain environmental controls and erosion prevention measures as required.
Position RequirementsQualifications:- Minimum of 5-7 years experience in heavy civil construction with a focus on highway dirt work and earthmoving operations.
- Proven leadership experience managing large crews and heavy equipment.
- Strong knowledge of grading, excavation, embankment construction, soil compaction, and earthwork quality control.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and survey data.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and highway construction standards.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license; CDL preferred.
- Ability to work long hours and travel to multiple job sites as required.
