Job Summary

Michigan Medicine Ambulatory Care Services is seeking a talented Project Senior Manager to join our growing organization and team. Under the general direction of department leadership, this role will provide project management expertise and leadership to support strategic initiatives across Michigan Medicine's Ambulatory Care portfolio.

This position requires the ability to lead complex projects across ambulatory care, clinical operations, virtual care and digital health, patient access, process improvement, patient programs, and facility operations. Responsibilities include managing large-scale project deliverables that require collaboration across clinical, operational, administrative, and external stakeholder groups. The individual will coordinate project planning, analysis, implementation, documentation, and communication activities using industry best practices, organizational standards, quality and safety principles to drive informed decision-making and successful outcomes.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in healthcare project management and operations, with experience supporting virtual care, digital health, or technology-enabled care delivery initiatives. They will be a collaborative and adaptable project manager who can successfully pivot between digital health efforts and broader operational priorities while building partnerships, aligning stakeholders, and delivering results in a complex healthcare environment.

Responsibilities*
  • Lead multiple concurrent strategic and operational projects across ambulatory care, clinical operations, patient access, service line growth, facilities, patient programs, process improvement, and virtual care.
  • Serve as a project management resource for digital health, telehealth, and virtual care initiatives, while maintaining the flexibility to support emerging organizational priorities across the ambulatory care portfolio.
  • Manage projects through all phases of the project lifecycle, including planning, design, implementation, optimization, and closeout.
  • Facilitate governance committees, workgroups, and stakeholder meetings, including virtual care and operational leadership forums.
  • Partner with clinical, operational, IT, facilities, patient experience, and administrative leaders to assess needs, develop solutions, and execute strategic initiatives.
  • Lead operational assessments, workflow redesign efforts, and process improvement initiatives that enhance patient access, quality, efficiency, provider experience, and patient satisfaction.
  • Support virtual care operations and continuous improvement efforts, including telehealth workflows, patient communication strategies, digital health programs, vendor management, policy development, operational readiness planning, and service optimization.
  • Analyze complex operational and clinical challenges; develop recommendations and implement solutions supported by data, stakeholder input, and organizational priorities.
  • Identify, assess, document, and manage project risks, issues, decisions, dependencies, and change management activities.
  • Prepare executive-level communications, presentations, business cases, and project status reports for leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Act as a liaison across departments to ensure project alignment with institutional goals, regulatory requirements, operational standards, and strategic priorities.
  • Build strong relationships and achieve consensus among diverse stakeholder groups while driving accountability and project outcomes.
  • Develop sustainable operational workflows, performance metrics, and governance processes to support long-term success.
  • Coach and mentor project teams and stakeholders through project implementation and organizational change.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare related field (e.g. Administration, Business, Engineering, and/or Health Sciences) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 5 years of healthcare project, clinical, facilities, and/or operations management experience.
  • Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of project management, techniques, and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead all project management processes from project planning to closeout.
  • Ability to analyze, compare, and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free of immediate directions, within the scope of their responsibility.
  • Highly analytical and has the ability to translate and communicate analysis into actionable information for problem-solving and decision-making at all levels within organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage change and solve problems in an ambiguous environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and achieve results. Strong team orientation and ability to manage in complex organizations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate flexibility and commitment to embracing change.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, including the demonstrated ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to bring structure to an unstructured environment.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio) and other project management tools to aid in the project delivery and data analysis including SmartSheets.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Master degree in a healthcare related field (e.g. Administration, Business, Engineering, and/or Health Sciences).
  • Broad understanding of healthcare trends (e.g. environment, market, payer, provider, regulatory).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Lean or Six Sigma training/certification and experience with applying lean concepts in planning and operations analysis.
