Job Description

SAIC is seeking an experienced Project Scheduler to support the Undersea Warfare and Support Market. The candidate would be supporting US Navy contracts focused mainly on the production of MK48 MOD 7 torpedo hardware and production related efforts.

Note: This position will be remote with estimated travel time of 10% to predominantly Rhode Island, Indiana and Northern Virginia.

Position Summary:

The Project Scheduler is responsible for creating, updating and coordinating project schedules with the program management and technical teams. Create resource usage models and predictions. Works closely with team leaders to build, evaluate and optimize project schedules. The Project Scheduler will participate in a cross-functional team environment in development and oversight of development and related project schedules. As a highly motivated individual with very good organization, technical, and communication skills, you will work with a team of professionals to deliver superior service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project schedules, including all phases of project execution.
  • Coordinate with project managers and team members to gather schedule information and update schedules accordingly.
  • Identify potential scheduling issues and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
  • Communicate schedule updates and changes to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Utilize scheduling software to create and manage project timelines.
  • Prepare regular reports on project schedule status, highlighting any deviations or risks.
  • Analyze project schedules to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures related to scheduling.
  • The Project Scheduler will work with the project leadership team to perform Microsoft Project tasks such as:
  • Project Setup:
    • Creating New Projects: Set up new projects, including defining project start dates, calendars, and working times.
    • Task Management: Create, organize, and link tasks (using dependencies), set task constraints, Deadlines, and milestones.
  • Resource Management:
    • Defining Resources: Add and categorize resources and set resource availability.
    • Assigning Resources: Assign resources to tasks and understand how different assignment types affect task scheduling.
  • Scheduling:
    • Effort Driven Tasks: Knowledge of effort-driven scheduling and how to apply it.
    • Critical Path Method (CPM): Identify and manage the project's critical path to ensure timely project completion. Knowledge of Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary critical paths
    • Handling Overallocations: Use tools like the Resource Graph, Resource Usage view, and leveling methods to resolve resource overallocation issues.
    • Baselines: Set and manage baselines for tracking project progress.
  • Tracking Progress:
    • Updating Tasks and Progress: Mark tasks as in progress, completed, or adjust task and project dates based on real-world data.
    • Variance Analysis: Compare baseline and actuals to analyze project performance and variances.
  • Views and Reports:
    • User-Defined Views: Customize and save different views (Gantt Chart, Task Usage, Resource Sheet, Network Diagram) to fit your scheduling needs.
  • Collaboration:
    • Sharing and Exporting: Efficiently share project plans through exporting and publishing, often involving integration with other Microsoft Office tools.
    • Project Online and Server: Having some exposure to Project Online or Project Server for enterprise-level project management would be advantageous.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • HS/GED and ten (10) years' experience; Or Associates and eight (8) years' experience; Or Bachelors and six (6) years' experience; Or Masters and four (4) years' experience.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth work environment and operate entrepreneurially and collaboratively to accomplish deliverables.
  • Proficiency with scheduling software, with a strong preference placed on MS Project
  • Experience in project planning/scheduling
  • Requires strong computer skills to include Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Applications, and integration between Office and Project
  • An understanding of critical path methodology to ensure, and communicate, timely delivery of milestone tasks.
  • Knowledge of earned value management (EVM)
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.
  • Candidate must be eligible to obtain security clearance and existing clearance status is preferred but not required.
