Job Description

Olsson is seeking a Project Mechanical Engineer to join our Federal Engineering and Design Team, where you'll lead mechanical system design for high-impact federal infrastructure projects. These include VA hospitals, DoD facilities, medical centers, and other government buildings that serve veterans, military personnel, and federal agencies.

You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering efficient, sustainable, and code-compliant mechanical solutions that meet federal standards and improve lives. This role offers the opportunity to lead projects from concept through construction, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to Olsson's growing federal portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

As a Project Mechanical Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
  • Lead mechanical design efforts for federal, healthcare, and institutional facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas systems.
  • Prepare detailed engineering documents, cost estimates, and design calculations.
  • Ensure all designs meet VA standards, UFC, IBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and other applicable codes and guidelines.
  • Coordinate with architects, other engineering disciplines, and federal stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Lead internal design reviews and quality control processes.
  • Participate in client meetings, site visits, and stakeholder presentations.
  • Build strong relationships with federal clients and partners.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, scopes of work, and federal RFP responses.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to junior engineers.
  • Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • PE license (required).
  • 6+ years of experience in mechanical design, with strong preference for VA, DoD, or healthcare facility experience.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and HVAC design software.
  • Familiarity with VA design standards, federal project delivery processes, and commissioning protocols.
  • Strong communication skills and experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
