THE VIRTUAL DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER OPPORTUNITY

Turner Construction's Vancouver office is seeking a full-time Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Project Manager. The role requires availability to work on-site or at the local head office, Monday to Friday, for 40 hours per week. The will report to the VDC Manager.

The VDC Project Manager will oversee the daily management of Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes, ensuring alignment with construction project schedules across projects of varying scope and complexity. This role requires a clear understanding of project objectives and coordination of activities, while ensuring Turner Digital Build standard processes align with project requirements. The VDC Project Manager will also lead, communicate with, and guide the Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) team, providing best practices, tools, and expertise to support the strategic implementation of modeling. This role also carries responsibility for managing VDC scope, schedule, and budget at the project level, ensuring effective use of resources and alignment with overall project financial goals.

As a VDC Project Manager, you will:
  • Promote the use of Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) by clearly communicating their value to project teams, trade partners, and clients.
  • Drive adoption of VDC services by demonstrating how digital coordination and modeling improve project planning, reduce risk, enhance quality, and support on-time delivery.
  • Partner with project leadership and clients to integrate VDC strategies, tools, and workflows into all phases of project execution.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage VDC early in the project lifecycle to improve coordination, constructability, and overall project outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to internal teams and external stakeholders, providing guidance on VDC capabilities and best practices.
  • Lead and manage BIM coordination processes and VDC operations for projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Develop and implement project-specific BIM execution plans aligned with contractual requirements and project goals.
  • Collaborate with project teams and trade partners to support coordination efforts, resolve clashes, and improve constructability through model-based workflows.
  • Monitor VDC performance, including progress, budget, and resource needs, and provide regular updates to project leadership.
  • Develop, track, and manage VDC project budgets, forecasts, and labor plans to ensure work is delivered within approved financial targets.
  • Proactively manage personal and team workload, prioritizing tasks to meet project milestones while optimizing efficiency and minimizing cost impacts.
  • Support estimating and change management processes through model-based quantity verification and variance reporting.
  • Communicate VDC-related impacts to scope, schedule, and coordination, working closely with scheduling and project management teams.
  • Mentor and support VDC team members, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide insight on BIM coordination, digital workflows, and overall VDC performance.
  • Ensure alignment with project quality standards and contribute to achieving high-quality project outcomes.
  • Promote and support Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) standards across all VDC-related activities.
  • Uphold contract requirements related to BIM, including model use, data integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of time spent on projects, maintaining accountability for billable utilization and cost control.

Is this role right for you:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited degree program in Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) or related technology, Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management or related field of study, advanced degree desired, with minimum of 6 years of related experience or in a related role, or equivalent education, training, and experience
  • Attain and maintain continuing education credits for CM-BIM designation, preferred
  • Able to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule
  • Thorough knowledge of VDC tools and applications in construction, cost, scheduling, estimating, and coordination principles
  • Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and specifications related to VDC
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills, able to engage in collaborative professional and technical dialogue with stakeholders
  • Advanced presentation delivery skills to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Effective conflict management skills, able to professionally communicate business objectives to maintain equitable solutions
  • Influential relationship building skills, able to lead and influence others that are not direct reports
  • Ability to develop specialized solutions and anticipate challenges, risks, and opportunities

  • Proficient in computer applications, Microsoft Office suite of applications, collaboration tools, and working knowledge of multiple BIM based computer applications (e.g., Autodesk Navisworks Manage, Revit, Construction Cloud (ACC), and AutoCAD; and similar BIM authoring/management tools)
  • Basic scripting/coding skills (e.g., Dynamo, Python)
  • Familiar with animation software (e.g., Lumion, Twin Motion), Adobe (e.g., Design Studio) desired, and programming language (e.g., Unreal and Unity) experience a plus
  • Familiar with Reality Capture workflows (e.g., Autodesk ReCap, 3D point cloud)
  • Able to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment and manage multiple project teamsFamiliar with continuous improvement culture, concepts, principles, methods, and tools
  • Travel as required
