The Construction Project Manager is responsible for leading structural steel erection projects from pre-construction through closeout, with full accountability for safety, schedule, quality, and financial performance.

This role is heavily focused on steel erection operations, including sequencing, connection detailing coordination, erection planning, and field execution alignment. The Steel Erection Project Manager ensures that all activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and company standards.

This individual serves as the primary point of contact for clients, field leadership, and internal stakeholders while maintaining strong visibility into jobsite operations and performance.

Key Responsibilities
Steel Erection Project Execution
  • Lead structural steel erection projects from award through closeout
  • Develop detailed erection plans, including sequencing, crane utilization, and manpower planning
  • Coordinate with engineering, detailing, and fabrication to ensure constructability and execution readiness
  • Monitor field progress and proactively resolve erection challenges
Financial and Commercial Management
  • Maintain accountability for project budgets, cost control, and forecasting
  • Manage billing, change orders, and cost tracking specific to steel erection scope
  • Drive margin performance through disciplined execution and cost oversight
Client and Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, general contractors, and stakeholders
  • Maintain strong relationships through consistent communication and reliable execution
  • Address and resolve project issues quickly and professionally
Field Coordination and Operations Alignment
  • Work closely with Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews to ensure successful steel erection
  • Maintain direct awareness of jobsite conditions, constraints, and productivity
  • Support critical lifts, complex picks, and high-risk erection activities
Safety and Compliance
  • Ensure all steel erection activities comply with OSHA standards, including Subpart R
  • Reinforce a zero-compromise safety culture across all projects
  • Participate in lift planning, job hazard analysis, and pre-task planning
Risk Management and Problem Solving
  • Identify erection risks, structural conflicts, and sequencing issues early
  • Develop and implement solutions to mitigate schedule, cost, and safety impacts
  • Maintain disciplined decision-making in high-risk environments
Performance Expectations
  • Delivery of steel erection projects on time, within budget, and aligned with scope
  • Strong financial performance and margin achievement

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant construction experience
  • 5+ years of construction project management experience required
  • Experience managing projects in crane, rigging, steel erection, or related construction environments strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with project financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
  • Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and contracts
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with construction management or project tracking software preferred
  • Ability to travel to jobsites as needed
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
Working Conditions
  • Combination of office and active construction jobsite environments
  • Regular jobsite visits with exposure to heavy equipment, elevated work areas, and varying weather conditions
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs or ladders, and navigate active jobsites
