Job Overview

The Project Manager supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Surface Haulage Business Unit's project management operating system. The role works with fellow project managers and cross-functional teams to consistently apply standard tools, templates, processes, and portfolio and project management systems that improve execution efficiency, visibility, and consistency. The Project Manager independently manages small to mid-sized projects by defining scope, developing and maintaining plans and schedules, coordinating resources, monitoring budgets and progress, and tracking risks, issues, actions, decisions, and dependencies. The role also supports engineering groups in organizing work, clarifying priorities, coordinating resources, resolving obstacles, and maintaining visibility to commitments and delivery performance. Through clear stakeholder communication, disciplined follow-through, and timely escalation, the Project Manager helps teams deliver agreed outcomes while strengthening project management practices across the organization.

The Project Manager supports the Program and Project Management team and reports to the Senior Project Manager.

They may be asked to fill in for or support meetings and engagements when necessary.

The Project Manager supports users of portfolio and project management tools and assists with project resource coordination, budget tracking, and status updates.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Creates and executes project work plans, and revises as appropriate to meet changing business requirements
  • Coordinates cross-functional teams of internal resources and, when applicable, third-party consultants to implement and deliver technical and business solutions.
  • Applies Komatsu project management methodologies and standards and helps fellow project managers consistently use established tools, templates, and processes.
  • Identifies and appropriately escalates critical risks, issues, and resource conflicts and supports the development of corrective actions.
  • Manages the day-to-day aspects of assigned small to mid-sized projects, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, and issues.
  • Effectively communicates relevant project information to Project Sponsor, Management and other Stakeholders.
  • Supports the development, application, and continuous improvement of project management practices across the organization.
  • Maintains awareness of project management trends and best practices and recommends practical improvements to tools, processes, and project delivery.
  • Manage project priorities focusing on meeting deadlines.
  • Track, manage and follow through on action items via internal and external requests.
  • Escalate project risks, issues, and resource conflicts to the Senior Project Manager and Program and Project Management team as needed.
  • Typical travel requirement is 5% - 10%.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • One to three years of project management or related project coordination experience.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and supporting projects through planning, execution, and closeout.
  • Working knowledge of project management disciplines, standards, tools, and business processes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear presentations and facilitate effective meetings with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Schedule management experience - both waterfall and agile
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient work knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with portfolio/project management tools


Preferred Skills
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is highly desirable; candidates without certification must demonstrate an interest in pursuing it.
  • Membership in the Project Management Institute (PMI) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Experience supporting engineering or technical development projects is preferred.


Additional Information

Hiring Range

At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $78,500 - $98,000. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
