Job Summary

The Project Manager - Design and Construction will provide professional leadership in project management for capital projects through the programming, design, construction, and close-out phases. This role ensures projects remain on schedule and within budget, and meet the Owner's Project Requirements, campus standards, end-user needs, and contract documents. The project portfolio consists of 1 to 2 active, complex higher education projects, each with budgets ranging from $10 million to over $100 million. This role involves collaborating with faculty, staff, executives, and administrators across various colleges and departments, as well as engaging with project representatives, professional consultants, contractors, vendors, and other relevant parties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

During the Programming & Design Phases:
  • Lead programming and design meetings with the project team and UTA stakeholders.
  • Develop project-specific scope requirements for third-party services and negotiate vendor proposals. Areas of consideration include Cx, TAB, Building Code Analysis and Inspections, Geotechnical Services, Materials Testing, Site Surveying, Cost Estimating, and any additional project-specific technical service requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects.
  • Manage the design team and general contractor, ensuring adherence to contracts, programming documents, Owner's Project Requirements, and other guiding documents.
  • Manage project development, ensuring adherence to budget and schedule.
  • Facilitate the review of design and construction documents, technical service contracts, Guaranteed Maximum Price submittals, bid documents, etc.

During the Construction Phase:
  • Ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
  • Manage the design team and contractor, ensuring adherence to contracts.
  • Manage stakeholder interests.
  • Manage third-party technical service contracts.
  • Facilitate document review, including submittals and shop drawings.
  • Coordinate project inspections.
  • Provide Executive Monthly Project Reports.
  • Coordinate third-party procurement, including furniture, A/V, and other project-specific Owner Furnished items.
  • Assist with the preparation of executive-level presentations.
  • Assist with in-house projects as other duties allow.
  • Remain up to date with codes and regulations relevant to design and construction, as well as any specific requirements for the building type.
  • Performs other duties assigned


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, construction management, engineering, or closely related field of study.
  • Five (5) years of experience, with two (2) years dedicated to project management or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role.
  • Experience with projects exceeding $60 million.
  • Relevant work experience may be accepted in place of the educational requirement.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in architecture, construction management, engineering, or closely related field of study.
  • Licensed architect or engineer (electrical, mechanical, structural, civil).
  • Eight (8) years of experience, with five (5) years dedicated to project management.
  • Experience with higher education projects exceeding $100 million.
  • Relevant work experience may be accepted in place of the educational requirement.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with appropriate computer applications, such as MS Office Suite, MS Project, Bluebeam, and project management software.
  • Previous exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, and/or other drafting/BIM programs.


Other Requirements
  • This position requires driving a UTA vehicle.


Workplace and Eligibility Conditions
  • Work will be primarily conducted in an office environment; however, this position will require visits to active construction sites, resulting in exposure to extreme weather conditions, chemical fumes, and electrical and mechanical hazards.
